My Best Friend - Reading SECOND PLACE

Reading is my teacher,
it helps me learn new words,
teaches me lessons,
and give me fun.
Reading is my cinema,
I love the ending,
When the justice wins,
and when the evil dies in a bin.
Reading is a sleeping pill,
When the words are too easy,
when the story keeps repeating,
and when the plot isn’t interesting.
Reading is a roller coaster,
when the main character is having an adventure,
when the hero is fighting with the monster,
and when the heroine is escaping from her evil step mother.
Reading is tear gas,
when the main character has a tragic life,
when the hero is dead,
and when the ending was sad.

The Worst Exam THIRD PLACE

Moaning voices were heard
all without a word,
This month is totally bad –
the worst exam we had!
Thirteen papers,
with three layers
and a subject more this year –
“hear, hear!”
Teachers were sniggering
some were even jeering
students exploding
still the teacher is teaching
“no rest!” said Mum
and went out in a hum,
Then she came back
with a great stack!
Exhausted students came back to school
X-raying papers and the exam rule
As teachers gave out the paper
Matters started to waver
After the exam students cheered
Teachers found this weird
But the exam is over
and the happiness always hovers.

My Curing Hands MERIT
Horace Choi 5A
One day, when I woke up. I found that I had magical power. Grandfather had been ill for two weeks and that day, when I went to hug him, he suddenly woke up with no pain! Mum was very surprised and asked, “Do your hands have magical power that can cure illnesses?”
I answered, “Maybe.” Mum didn’t think more and took me to a local hospital, She told a doctor the whole story and the doctor said, “Let me try!” He let me touch the head of a patient of H3N2, the flu virus that killed many people in Hong Kong. The patient immediately jumped out of the bed and went away as if nothing happened.
The doctor was also surprised and call to every newspaper and television company. The next morning, it was very crowded outside my home and everyone wanted me to cure them. When I was busy touching their heads, I realised that there were disadvantages too, The doctors would lose their jobs if everybody comes to find me. Also , dispensaries and hospitals would close down.
At last, I decided to find a magician to turn me back into an ordinary child. However, he said it was hopeless because he hadn’t seen these cases before. Suddenly, he remembered that Jesus had this power too, so he simply prayed for an hour and my magical power disappeared gradually.
From this experience, I found that many people are suffering from illnesses and we need to help them. I hope that I can invent more better medicines in the future!

E-books Are Better Than Books MERIT

Nowadays, people start to read e-books more than paperback books. Since the advancement of computers and other gadgets, how we read books has changed over the years. There are some reasons to choose e-books rather than paperback books.
First, paperback books are heavy. We cannot carry too much paperback books at one time. If I want to bring several books for a trip, they will be heavy. On the other hand, e-books are weightless. You can save a lot of e-books in your laptop or in a USB stick.
Second, e-books can be read by using a reader, desktop, notebook, PDA, phone, your TV or sometimes you can print them yourself. Also, e-books allow you to save a copy easily on USB stick, memory stick, desktop, notebook, CD, DVD, phone memory, etc. It is convenient for people who travel a lot.
Third, e-books save paper, that means we save trees! E-books are also much cheaper than paperback books.
In my opinion, reading e-books has more advantages. E-books usually contain more pictures, photos and animation. Kids would love to see that.

My home has an enchanted storeroom,
which is filled up with books,
I don’t need a witch's broom,,
To travel to places and have a look.
I once went to the land of dinosaurs,
And met some of them,
I made friends with a dicraeosaur,
And gave it a name, Sam.
I went to the ancient Egypt yesterday,
There I solved puzzles and found treasures.
Though they were hard and very far away,
I won the game, and had a great adventure.
I also ran with cats,
Fought with dogs.
I explored the Amazon forest,
And visited the seven dwarfs’ resort.
You might be surprised about what I could do,
But actually, that was just easy.
It is so easy that everyone could do it,
Take a book, have a seat, and read, read, read…

Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump.
My heart is jumping quickly inside.
Scratch. Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.
I hear pencils dancing on the paper,
I try to teach my pencil waltz,
But it cannot move at all,
A, B, C, D, E...
I see a sea of words,
Swimming in front of me,
F, G, H, I, J…
My mind is blank.
The words do not make sense to me.
Suddenly,
the pencil moves slowly
and produce beautiful lines,
Ding! Time’s up!
Put down your pencil.
I look at my paper filled words
And confidently pass it out.

Transforman MERIT

One day, I woke up and wanted to have a walk. Unfortunately, my mum did not allow me to go out unless I had finished my revision. I looked outside the window and wished that I could be a bird, flying freely in the sky.
Suddenly, my body began to change. I got two wings and there were feathers on my skin. I was a bird! I could not believe I had a super power that allows me to transform into anything! “I’m a Transforman!”
Two days later, I had totally got used to my incredible talent. Therefore, I changed into a butterfly and flew to my favourite shopping mall to explore. However, it was closed with the doors and windows shut. So I changed into an ant and slipped into the gap under the door. But an ant’s speed was too slow so I turned into a bee. Just then, there was a clang sound on my right hand side. I discovered three men with masks, taking weapons such as guns, knives and hammers, were walking to a jewellery shop! I changed back to normal and hid myself. I used my phone to call the police. Meanwhile, I decided to do something great with my super power, that was to arrest the robbers.
I turned into water and slipped in the gates of the jewellery shop. The men use their hammer to break the gate of the jewellery shop. Meanwhile, I turned into gold in the jewellery shop. The men broke the gate and came in. The first man saw me and picked me up and said, “Wow! This is the most beautiful piece of gold I have seen!” When he was trying to put me in his bag, I turned into a fearsome monster and they were very scared. They froze in their tracks. I tied them up and then the police came. The police thanked me and put the three robbers in jail. I turned into a bee again and flew back home. I was not found by my mum!
