Reading Programmes at YWPSIt goes without saying that "reading" is a key element to success in learning a language. As a second language, it could even be more important to pick up reading as a habit and hobby since it could be the learners' major input of the language outside school.
In Ying Wa Primary School, we care a lot about our boys' reading attitude, motivation, proficiency and efficiency. We believe that if they start to enjoy reading when they are small, their studies in other disciplines in English will come a lot smoother, not to mention that our through-train school Ying Wa College is an esteemed school with English-as-a-Medium-of-instruction. There are several ways we nurture English reading in YWPS. For instance, our English Room houses thousands of motivating books for boys. Books that go with our annual theme will be promoted as well to attract more readers; students keep a Reading Log to record their reading journey and reflections; we teach with children literature during lessons: Wizard of Oz, Oliver Twist and many Roald Dahl titles are among the selected readers in our curriculum; our ever-growing school-based Reading Strategies Training Scheme (RSTS) further enhances students' reading experience; the newly developed Reading Championship allows advanced readers to shine... |
