Our Story Pilots at a kindergarten for Reading-Sharing Activity 2025
(20 March) Our Story Pilots Reading-Sharing Activity this year was an enriching storytelling activity hosted in collaboration with Ming Wai International Kindergarten's Prince Edward Branch today. Led by Vice Principal Ms Jenny Ho and myself (Mr Jason Lau), 16 Primary 4 boys from Ying Wa Primary School took on the role of storytellers for a group of eager K2 kindergarteners.

This interactive session allowed the Ying Wa boys to read a selection of engaging English storybooks, fostering a sense of connection and joy between the two age groups. As they animatedly shared tales of adventure and imagination, the boys not only honed their English language skills but also cultivated essential social skills such as communication and empathy. The experience encouraged their creativity as they brought stories to life, while also instilling patience as they navigated the learner diversity amongst the younger listeners.

Overall, this event proved to be a valuable opportunity for personal growth, reinforcing the importance of storytelling in building community and nurturing a love for reading among children.

I think that the K2 students were very funny and well-behaved.They all seemed delighted when I gave out the stickers. Everybody had at least one.The students with less stickers didn't even seem jealous of the ones who had more. The princpal was so nice. She presented each of us souvenirs:a bag with some snacks inside.I'm sure the students thought my story was interesting because they all listened attentively.Overall,I'm sure this was a vaulable learning experience for all of us.

It was a precious experience and we experienced how does it feel to be a teacher.
The children were all overjoyed to have a sticker, although it was hard to give them a sticker while reading the story. I was nervous at first when I was reading to the first group as the K2 students were not answering my questions so I need to answer the question myself like a dummy!
After telling the story to the three assigned groups, we took a group photo . I felt the tension building inside the school:teachers shouting at students to line up properly ,students arguing and pushing each other but Ying Wa boys stay calm.
In conclusion, this activity does not only enrich our friendship, it also trains little teachers .In my opinion, the school should arrange more "reading and sharing" activities for students.

I am thankful to have this reading sharing opportunity! It makes my dream come true! Today I am "a little teacher”, having a group of K2 students. Thanks my teachers for arranging such a meaningful activity!😊

The K2 boys and girls were very adorable. They showed curiosity and were willing to listen to us for storytelling, that made me feel so warm! I desired to share more interesting things with them. When I asked the final question, one little boy who had already answered 5 questions, suddenly cried. Do you know why? It was because I gave another student a try instead of him, he cried as he couldn’t get the final chance. I promptly found one more interesting question for him, he stopped crying finally! I was very impressed, and I learned that we should give someone more opportunities when he really loves to learn.😊

This Reading Sharing Activity was really a great and fun experience, especially for such a shy guy like me! It turns out this is not as difficult as I thought. If I got a chance again next time, I would absolutely join it!😊

It was a precious experience and we experienced how does it feel to be a teacher.

First, I was stunned to discover that preparing for a sharing and designing the game would be such a headache and tough work. Time-control, fluency practising and dedicated efforts were all put in use.

Moreover, while reading to the first group ,I realised that young kids have difficulties in focusing well and could not catch up with my reading pace.I figured out that if I did actions and pointed to the key words more often, they could imagine the whole picture of the story clearly.

Last but not least, I learnt that there were no shortcuts to attract students listening to you.It is a miracle that our teachers can handle student's behaviour while making the class more interesting and interactive. We should listen with all our ears when the teacher is teaching ,not wanting for their hard work to be wasted.

In conclusion, this activity does not only train our patience, it also help us learn how to think on one's feet. In my opinion, I suggest our school to arrange more "reading and sharing" activities for students.

I am really grateful for this book sharing activity. I was able to become a "little teacher" for the K2 children. I am very grateful to the teacher for arranging this meaningful activity!

The kids at K2 are all very cute. Their curiosity and enthusiasm to listen to our stories warmed my heart. Moreover, I also learned how to get along better with children younger than me. I need to answer their questions patiently and give them encouragement when giving them stickers.

This event was a great and fun experience. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. If there is another opportunity I will definitely participate again!

I am really grateful for the arrangement of the teachers and let me join this meaningful book sharing activity. I was very pleased to become a “little teacher” for a group of K2 students!
The K2 students are all very cute. At first, they did not pay attention and would not answer any questions, I was a bit nervous at that moment. After that, I gave them some stickers to encourage the kids to answer the questions and they became very active. Some kids impressed me that they knew the answer of every question that I asked. Some kids even asked for more questions to answer because they loved the stickers. They were all delighted to get a lot of stickers.
This was a great and precious experience for joining the event. It doesn’t only teach me to be patient, it also teach me being a teacher is not easy. I hope our school can arrange more book sharing activities for students!

I’m very thankful that the teachers arranged this event and that I could be able to join this fun and fresh experience of storytelling.
The K2 students were cute. They were brave and always answered questions even if it the question was very hard. And when they answered a question right we would give them colourful stickers that they liked.
This was overall a very good experience, I hope there are more events like this in the future.

I am really thankful to have this outstanding opportunity to be a story pilot and share a book with K2 students
My hands and voice were shaking as I was about to hold my book and introduce myself.I was nervous about how will the children behave. But I knew I had no other options but to go through this pain as quick as possible.
After I finished the first group of children,I thought,it wasn’t too bad it was actually just gained myself confidence by giving them stickers that Miss.Jenny and Mr Lau give us back at school, so then,I just enjoyed the moment and experience
After I read to all groups ,I was really happy and engaged by this storytelling. Hopefully I can go to more exciting events from school.
Thank you

First,I need to thank the teachers who arranged this special event and teacher who selected me to join this fun and new experience of storytelling.I was nervous when I arrived the kindergarden,my voice was shaking as I needed to hold the book and introduce myself .Surprisingly , the K2 students behaved very well and brave to answer the questions .If they answered the question correct, we will give them stickers to reward them, I think doing that gained their confidence. Overall ,it was a very good experience, I hope there are more events like this to let us join.
Thank you .
