A celebrative moment!
Congratulations to our Thematic Group Speaking Team for achieving yet another FIRST PLACE in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival!
The team competed on 12 Dec and was awarded an amazing score of 92 (Honours). Adjudicator Mr Owen wrote: "...Incredible focus, control & energy. You manage to be eleven individual 'characters' & yet work as an exceptional 'team'..."
The Thematic Group Speaking category requires a combination of texts in different genres under the same theme, designed by the participating school. The performance duration is a maximum of 15 minutes. This year, in line with our school theme, our Thematic piece was titled "Light It Up", bringing together inspirational texts related to "light" from the Bible, Tagore's verse, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Harry Potter, and a speech by Nichols, all introduced and linked by additional lines written by the team's coach, Dr Lee.
This category is highly demanding, but we are proud to have achieved FIRST PLACE every time since we began participating in 2014. Except for the three Covid years when all group categories were cancelled, Ying Wa Primary School has won every other year, and this is our 9th triumph in this category.
Well done, boys!

Sorry, typo, it should be “poetic lines”. Thank you.

Congrats to all the Thematic Group Speaking Teammates for winning with an incredible 92 points! As being in this great team myself, I really want to thank Dr Lee for making such a wonderful script for us to perform. During the practises, it was very tiring. Moreover, we had many difficulties through each scene and even experienced a member leaving the group. For myself, I also had some difficulties for remembering the long script. However, the hard work paid off as we won. It was all worth it. This unique experience taught me that if we want to achieve something, we must work hard and never give up.

As said by everyone, congrats to the Thematic Group Speaking team for winning and scoring an impressive 92 points!

As one of the team members myself, I have been struggling with facial expressions and lack of confidence, but I haven't realised that I had these problems until I went here. Apart from being a fantastic show, I also experienced a (small) change with my expressions, and I (kind of) became more confident in the process! (I still have a long way to go, though) I hope that the Thematic Group will work even better in the future!

This was truly a lovely experience being a part of the Thematic Group Speaking Team😄 It was really satisfying to see every one of us improve throughout the months and I certainly felt a strong bond between us which made such an amazing team. Thank you my dear teammates!

Throughout, I must say that the eleven of us enjoyed every single session of training. Every minute was memorable as we expressed ourselves uniquely and at the same time, worked as a collaborative team. It felt so nice to see that our work paid off as we scored a fantastic 92 marks! I absolutely look forward to performing again in the Winners Recital😄

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lee for writing such a winning script and for training us😄 Thank you!

It was a great pleasure 😄 for me to join the Thematic Group this year. In this competition, I learnt a lot and broaden my horizons.

At first, when we just joined the team and had a briefing with Dr. Lee, we struggled 🤔 a bit (especially me, since it was my first time to join the Thematic Group) and did not know that we needed to recite so many things. However, after the two intensive training sessions following the briefing, we started to realise 😮 that it was not easy to do such great 👍 work we’ve accomplished in the competition.

At the beginning, we did not work together well and could not read the bible and verse neatly. But after that, we set up tacit between others and began working together effectively. 😍

At the end, during the competition, our hard work really paid off and we earned an incredible high score of 92. 🥳 Hooray! We were thrilled to bits 🤩 and felt that our trainings had been truly meaningful.

Last but not the least, I really want to thank 🙏 Dr. Lee for adding those extra lines to the script and my teammates 🙏 for working together to achieve that incredible high score. This opportunity was very precious, and I cherish it deeply.
🥳🥳🥳🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😘😘😘

It's a pleasure to have such a high marks for the Themetic Group Speaking team. Although there's no other team, we also scored an excellent score.
I still remember the moment where Principal Chan watched our performance at the hall. She gave us some ideas for us to improve. Then, we improved. We improved a lot!
I learnt that we must work as a team, not an individual. Once someone's speaking, we must keep our faces lit up.
After the competition, I would like to thank the whole team for helping everyone in the team to score such high marks.

It’s a pleasure to be in the thematic group speaking team and help everyone to get an amazing 92 marks!
At first, I found the script quite difficult and I was worried about it. However, after a month of training,I became more and more confident.Although that someone quit at some time, we just have something to change(a little bit).At last, with our unity, we finally have this incredible mark at the competition day!
I especially wanted to thank Matthew,as he always leads us to be more expressional. Finally, I congrat everybody for winning the competition again!

Congratulations for winning the Hong Kong Speech Festival WINNER with 92 marks, it was a pleasure to be in this team .At first I thought the training was tooooooooo intensive and was reluctant to "exist "at the training. But after receiving the the script from Doctor Lee.I found it as impressive as the judge had described:the texts linked together very fluently. following after, I never complained about the training sessions.
Our team worked together beautifully as a team that had worked together for years. We had deserved a high score like this because of our hard work !!!!!!!!!
Once again thank you Dr. lee for giving me this opportunity to Light It Up!

Congrats everyone for winning the hong kong speech festival with 92 marks, and i was grateful to join the theamatic speaking team. When I reicieved the notice of that i can participate in the group,I was confused and surprised what to do in the group and found it a bit boring, but as i trained for a few weeks,I started to get interested in it. [I have joined the choral speaking team before and the same thing happened to me😅😅] Besides, when i saw the script,I thought it was very long but as I was looking through the script, I started to learn how to LIGHT UP myself! I think that the '92' marks worths it,because we've been practicing this script for three months and twice a week.[And of course, our hard work too!]. I want to join this group again next year!If i 😬😬can join again i will try my best o get a 💯 and light up me and my group! Thank you dr.Lee for let me participate in this group! 🙌💫💫

I am really happy to be part of the Thematic Group Speaking Team! Winning first place with a score of 92 was amazing! Thank you, Dr. Lee, for creating such an inspiring script and helping us improve our speaking skills.

At first, memorizing our lines was tough, but with hard work and support from each other, we did it. I learned how important teamwork is. Each of us brought something special, which made our presentation better.

I loved every moment, especially the fun rehearsals and getting to know my teammates. Let’s light it up on stage again! This experience taught me that working together leads to great success, and I discovered a hidden talent for drama.

If I get the chance to participate next year, I definitely will join! I can’t wait to practice more public speaking and share what we learned. Learning new skills and making memories with friends made this journey unforgettable!
