Mr Liu (middle) with our boys and Vice Principal Ms Ho (left) and Assistant Principal Dr Lee (Right)
(16 Mar) Organized by the China Merchant Group, Mr Dan Liu (nicknamed Professor Dan), a doctoral candidate from the US, shared with our boys in English on the topic of "Through-life Learning" this afternoon at a bookstore in Wan Chai.

19 boys from P.5 to 6 signed up the event through the school's Talents Management System and participated in the event. Spoken from the speaker's own experience, the one-hour session was an inspiring adventure where students learnt about the positive study attitude such as learning from your idols, understanding your own learning context, asking questions and understanding who you are.

Our boys interacted with the speaker very well and to everyone's surprise, the participants received souvenirs in the end including a generous pack of book coupons! It was truly a beneficial event in many ways and all of us have become "a better me" after the talk!

This is a very meaningful activity. Mr Dan is a modest, humorous and humble teacher (also a doctoral student). We had interactive discussions with him. In the workshop, we understood how to learn in the long run. I am very thankful for our school to give me such a precious opportunity to expand my horizon. I hope there will be more opportunities like this in the near future.

This is a truly one of the best experiences I can get in a book store despite the books. Professor Dan asked us some questions about being a learner that I have never thought of before. He used a Chinese idiom (which he first knew it as an Indian story), his own experience and some quotes of famous people (including Confucius and Bill Gates) to make the talk more interesting and more inspiring. This is a brilliant experience to broaden my thinking and communication skills!

This activity made me learn more about myself and also caused me to think more. Professor Dan asked us many meaningful questions such as what is our learning context. Moreover, he shared his experiences in life and inspired us on how to improve ourselves and be a better me. I hope there will be more activities like this in the future.

Today, I had the opportunity to attend a school lecture on the philosophy of life, and it helped me understand so much more than I did before. Professor Dan asked us thought-provoking questions that made me reflect deeply. He also shared stories about his parents' backgrounds and talked about the lessons he learned throughout his journey.

It was truly an honor to attend this lecture. Through this wonderful experience, I gained a better understanding of the importance of lifelong learning and was introduced to the world of philosophy. Professor Dan's sharing was truly inspiring and deeply touched my heart. I also appreciated his sense of humor, which made the lecture even more enjoyable!

I think this is a very rare opportunity for some of the Ying Wa boys to gather in a bookstore and interact with professor Dan about how we learn, how we overcome challenges, and so on.He also shared some of his experiences in his life that could inspire us to learn from him to be better.Although his ancestors used to be farmers,he loved learning and seized his opportunities and became highly educated. He also told us that we should learn to say,”I don’t know.”that’s because that is the reason why we are learning .In conclusion, this lecture has truly made me think deeply about my learning condition. It’s really meaningful and unforgettable.

This lecture educated me about learning with different perspectives and encouraged me to find the full picture of something before jumping to conclusions. It inspired me to be different kinds of learners, and not to be afraid of seeking others' help. Professor Dan was both smart and humorous, and kept us engaged in the seminar.

This activity made me think more about myself and changed my way of thinking. Professor Dan asked us lots of questions about being a learner, for example “ what is the most difficult thing to say as a learner ?” He also taught us some meaningful idioms such as you can’t jump to conclusions if you only know a small part of something. Professor Dan also shared with us his experiences in his life which made us very inspired. All in all, this was an unforgettable experience and I really appreciate that Ying Wa gave me the chance to broaden my learning zone.

Thank you Dr. Lee for arranging the seminar for our boys. I learnt a lot from the humour Mr. Dan for talking about his experience of lifelong learning. That has given me a lot of insights. I hope that I can have more of this unforgettable and meaningful experience.

I find this talk very interesting and useful. Professor Dan used the Chinese idiom “Blind People Touching an Elephant” to help explain life. I learnt that we shouldn’t be afraid of asking others, or we will only know very little. Thank you Dr. Lee and Ms. Jenny!

I think that this talk will be a precious and memorable learning experience for everyone.Mr.Dan talked about a topic which is very interesting,”LifeLong Learning” He told us that saying “I don’t know” could be easy or hard.If you wanted to give up, you can say I don’t know easily. However, if you really don’t understand, but you care about how others look at you, it will be hard to say “I don’t know”.Thank you Ms Jenny and Dr.Lee for choosing me to come to this talk.

This is one of the best experiences where i can talk to professionals about a specific topic, which is learning through out life. The best part in my opinion is that he shared about his family and his back ground which not many people are willing to becsase of privacy. Well, many thank to the teachers and principal for hosting this event for us!

This was by far the most unforgettable experience I ever had. Mr.Dan not only asked us questions of ourselves but also encouraged us to learn and communicate. I learned that sometimes if you are not sure about something or you only now a part of it, you should bravely ask for help, not sitting a side thinking with no clue on how to solve the problem. Thank you for the sharing and encouragement, Mr.Dan!

This is a meaningful activity. It taught me that we must always learn more things. Learning doesn’t have an ending. Mr Dan’s father was a very good example for us, too. He grew up in a very poor family but still didn’t give up learning. Soon, he became a professor. We should learn his study attitude to never give up learning no matter what. Hope that more schoolmates can join this activity next year!

This activity is very meaningful. Mr. Dan talked about learning Throughout life and the importance of learning. He asked the question, which is,what is the hardest thing for you as a learner to say? He said it is I don’t know. This was one of The most intriguing questions I’ve been asked And sometimes, if you don’t know, you just have to be Brave and say I don’t know. I hope more students could have the chance to join this activity

This weekend, I joined a lecture at a bookstore in Wan Chai. The workshop and lecture was hosted by Dan, who started with a creative intro, asking us about our birthday. After that, he asked us lots of questions about learning, for example, the “learner” we admire the most and our learning style. Me and my friends were very actively involved and engaged, and kept answering questions, to Dan’s and everyone else’s delight. It was one of the few times I had actually enjoyed a lecture, and it had lit my spark for learning. This has been a very unforgettable experience, and I have truly learned from it. This is the first time I have ever experienced the host of a lecture so energetic and jolly, leading to myself understanding the facts and questions quicker, which I overly enjoyed and appreciated

Mr Dan provided us an interesting and inspiring speech on lifelong learning in a humorous way. He encouraged us to learn in different ways. For example, through self-learning, you can develop individual mind. If you seek help from others, they can offer you creative ideas. We have learned more about advantages of having new learning modes. Also, he has taught us that when we discovered a new concept, we should never just judge it by the only small part we knew. We should continue to explore the unknown parts. This was truly an unforgettable learning experience.

Attending the lecture on nurturing curiosity and problem-solving was enlightening. The speaker emphasized maintaining a curious mindset, urging us to actively engage with the world rather than passively consume information. We were reminded of the importance of humility in acknowledging what we don't know and staying open to new insights. Additionally, the speaker encouraged us to look beyond the surface, as deeper understanding requires probing beneath appearances. This approach enriches learning and fosters a deeper connection with the world's complexities.
The concept of problem-oriented and exploratory learning was particularly intriguing. By identifying and tackling real-world problems, we not only enhance our understanding but also develop critical thinking skills. This approach encourages us to ask questions, seek answers, and embrace the unknown, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.
The idea of not being shy was another key takeaway. The speaker highlighted that saying "I don’t know" is both easy and hard. It's easy because, as students, we're in an environment where learning is encouraged, and admitting ignorance is acceptable. However, it's difficult due to the fear of judgment or ridicule, which can make us hesitant to admit when we don't know something. Overcoming this fear is crucial, as embracing "I don’t know" opens us to new learning opportunities and fosters genuine growth.
Overall, the lecture inspired me to rekindle my curiosity and approach life with a problem-solving mindset. By doing so, I hope to navigate my personal and professional life with greater creativity and resilience. This session was a powerful reminder that curiosity is not just a trait but a vital skill that can lead to continuous personal development.
