A Special Day with a Penguin          SECOND PLACE
Edward Leung 2B

It was a cozy afternoon. I was reading a book called “Eve of the Emperor Penguin” at the library of Ying Wa Primary School.

When I was reading the third page of Chapter One a piece of paper dropped on to the floor, I picked it up and it said , “There are over hundreds of penguins being caught by hunters, YOU are CHOSEN to stop this illegal activity and save these penguins.”

There was a big whoosh of air! The strong wind took me to a magic adventure. I was blown to Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth. I was overwhelmed as lots of Emperor penguins were standing on icebergs. The scenery in front of me was exactly the same as in my P.2 reader.

Suddenly, a little Emperor penguin standing next to me made some bonking noises. It seemed that I understood what he said and looked at the direction of where his wing was pointing. There were three men creeping to wards the Emperor penguins. ”what do they want?” I asked. Tears were streaming down the eyes of the little penguin. “Oh no! They are going to catch the Emperor penguins.” I thought. “I must stop them, but how?” I whispered.

I ran to the skidoo quickly but quietly. I pressed the horn.  “Beeeeeep!” “Beeeeeep!” went the horn. The horn scared the Emperor Penguins. They promptly dived into the sea at the same time and made the iceberg sink. The iceberg was sinking fast. The men were frightened and they ran back to their skidoo.” Be quick! Let’s move to another iceberg,” the short and fat man said. However, the men couldn’t start their skidoo the sea level was rising up to their. “Help!” pleaded the tall man. At that moment, a New Zealand policeman came down from a helicopter to rescue the three men. The hunter to rescue the three men, The hunters were handcuffed by the policeman.

Another policeman landed on the iceberg that on the iceberg that I was hiding bland. “Thank you,” he said,” Well done! You saved the Emperor Penguins from being caught and sold.” The little penguin Flapped its wings to appreciate my help. I saw a key in the penguin’s Beak. What a smart little Penguin! I hugged its chunky body. The policeman took an instant photo of us.

When the helicopter took off, the wind was as strong as the tornado. I was pulled from the little penguin. I was spun in the tornado, “Edward, are you ok?” asked Jeffrey gently . I woke up in my school library. In my hands was a photo of the little penguin and me. What an amazing adventure!

Cuck: The Amazing new Species        THIRD PLACE
Caleb Lee 2E

Hello everybody! Today, I would like to share with you this...the one and only extraordinary species that has been discovered in human history, by me! It is called the Cuck.

The Cuck is an animal which is a bit special: it has the head of a cat while it also has wings, feathers and a pair of sharp, sleek talons which come from a falcon. It said that there was such an animal in the swamps of the planet before, however, they died along with the dinosaurs in a meteorite crash about sixty-five million years ago.

Later, scientists examined the fossils and what was left of them and found out that the cells of Cucks matched with the ones from falcons and cats. The scientists then carried out an experiment by combining the cells of the falcons and cats to create Cuck again. It was a success! A furry friend with orange and brown feathers and spiky whiskers was reborn and thus Cuck exists for a second time.

Nowadays, Cucks live in various swamps and wetlands in different parts of the world in the Amazon rain forest and the number of them has expanded from a few to around four thousand. However, this pretty creature is facing the threat of being hunted to make medicine and models. Scientists estimate that if nothing is done, they will all start to die out at about twenty years from now. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s go something together to protect this beautiful animal!

Speedball      MERIT
Marvis Leung 2A

The name of this new animal is “speedball”. It has a round and brown body, two yellow and orange legs with red and razor-sharp claws. It also has blue spikes on its body and its orange long neck. It has three long tails. One of the tails is orange, the other is red, and the last one is yellow. Furthermore, it has three big blue horns on its brown and round head. It also has a long yellow beak.

If you stay too close to the “speedballs”, they would use their feet to kick you to very faraway places. Their three tails help them to balance when they run very fast to get away from the predators. When they sleep, their blue spikes protect them from predators who wants to eat them at night time.

“Speedballs” live in the forests, on the very high mountains in New Zealand.

Some “Speedballs” can swim in oceans to find food for their babies. When two male “speedballs” fight for one female, they shout and peck each other’s tails.

Do you find my new animal interesting? I wish I could find a “speedball” in the real world!

Space-ice-dogs        MERIT
Ian Liu 2C

These are the space-ice-dogs. They have no hair, but seven legs and six toes on each foot; they have four ears, six hands, eight fingers on each hand, two mouths and seven eyes. Their eyes are made of ice balls. Their bodies are green. Their size is bigger than a golden retriever but smaller than a pig.

Space-ice-dogs live in Uranus, Neptune and Saturn. They don’t like hot places. If they feel hot, they will go away. Their family find ice and snow to build their house to live.

Space-ice-dogs eat ice balls and rocks. They drink melted ice water. Sometimes, they lick their eyes.

They like to ride on spaceships to go to another planet. Space-ice-dogs can read and write human words. They gather in groups to find food. Each group has ten to eighteen space-Ice-dogs. They like to play with ice cubes. They find groups to play too. They don’t like people tapping them.

I hope these animals were real and I could live with them.

Super Flying-Fisheep         MERIT
Jonathan Tiu 2D

I like sheep very much, so the new animal that I created is called “super flying-fisheep”.

It looks like any other sheep: with a head, a chunky body and four legs. But it is very special, because it has two strong wings.

This super flying-fisheep is gentle and lovely. It eats plants only. It lives on grassland and it eats a lot of grass. It sometimes flies to the top of the trees to eat leaves. It sometimes dives in to the sea to eat seaweed. It can swim faster than a fish!

I will teach it English and we can play together.

My Favourite Holiday        MERIT
Wallace Hui 2D

My favorite holiday is Christmas. I believe Christmas is the symbol of love and this is the season that we may never forget the love we have for Jesus. I definitely feel Christmas is awesome because I love the feeling in the air when everyone is happy and joyful.

Christmas holiday is the happiest moment for me because I spend time with my parents and relatives. We clean and put some decorations in our house. We put our Christmas lights into our Christmas tree that symbolize a “Bright Tomorrow”. We buy gifts and cards from the store. I also enjoy the connections developed through giving and receiving gifts.

This is how I celebrate my Christmas Holiday. Let’s have the spirit of Christmas in our hearts.

A Special Day with a Penguin        MERIT
Cyrus Soo 2E

Last summer, my family and I went to the beach on an island near the Antarctica.

When my mother and I were building a huge and beautiful sandcastle using spades and buckets, suddenly we heard the sound of splashing near the shore. We found a small-sized penguin struggling in the water and floating towards us. Then we rushed to the share and helped it get on land. The little penguin looked exhausted. I thought that the penguin had lost its mother. I couldn’t believe my eyes and dropped my bucket.

I went to the shore and carried the penguin back to the beach. It was very heavy. I poured some sea water on its body to keep it cool and sheltered it from the sun with an umbrella. I also placed a a portable fan in front of the penguin. The penguin was very cute and lovely.

After that, my dad and I built a wooden raft to carry the penguin back to Antarctica, Hoping to find its mother. When we arrived, its mother was waiting for it near the shore. I felt happy because I could offer help and save the penguin. It was a wonderful adventure!

Suddenly, I was waken up by the alarm clock. Oh! It was only a dream! I immediately gave a big hug to my toy penguin bought from Ocean Park.
