My Wonderful Life Full of Surprises    SECOND PLACE
Goodwin Chan 3A

2020, COVID erupted like a blasting volcano.
Boom! So brisk, immense and threatening.
Schools … suspended, work … refrained, freedom … no more?
Surprise! Biking, hiking, basketball,
My family and I enjoyed them all, and still have time for more!
There was a blessing in disguise after all.

2021, COVID swirled the world like a powerful tornado.
Clatter! So chaotic, puzzled, and worrisome.
Go out at risk? Or stay home bored? Our minds were lost.
Surprise! Bubble bath, snack party, staycation,
Sanitised and sanitised, Daddy managed to cheer us up all.
Daddy was our hero after all.

2022, COVID reigned over the world like a super king.
H-o-n-k! Terrified, surrendered, and disheartened!
Schools, stores, gyms and more, all were shut down in one call: a ghost town saddened all.
Surprise! Building, coding and robotics,
A surprise present made magic, Sad days became ecstatic.
My EV3 Lego toy was my best buddy after all.

Always and forever, I’m grateful for my wonderful life of surprises!
Hurray! So uplifting, heartwarming, and contented.
Beyond all surprises, my greatest blessings are my parents.
My parents are my Panadols.
They cure my fever and easy my pain;
All down times become a piece of cake.
What a blessed surprise!

I’m grateful to Mother Earth    THIRD PLACE
Hadrian Kwai 3A

Dear Mother Earth,

Thank you for all the wonderful resources you have given us. Thank you for the beautiful colours, clean water, fresh air, land, food and life. You are so pretty.

You gave me a nice comfortable home, with a stunning view from the windows. Blue skies, white clouds, bright sun, green mountains, wavy seas, quiet nature and many interesting wildlife. Sometimes in the city, we can see many busy people, transportations criss-crossing around, tall skyscrapers and shops. You are full of vitality. You are so amazing.

I watched an animated movie called “Wall-E” recently. It is about you having become a garbage strewn wasteland seven hundred years later. I can’t believe it! I am sorry that many people do not treat you well, but I am sure we all love you so much.

We will make sure we will not trash up the world. We will try our very best to reduce, reuse and recycle. I hope you will shine your beauty forever.

Love,

Hadrian

A Weird Day with My Magic Finger    MERIT
Marcus Chan 3C

It was a sunny day, the sun was shining brightly up in the blue sky. The weather was as hot as an oven. I reclined lazily on the cushions, snugged inside my lovely bedroom. After a while, there was something glowing in my bed. I jumped out of bed and saw my finger glittering. The light was as shiny as gold. ‘Eek! Eek! What’s happening to my finger?’ I screamed in fright and my face turned pale. My mum sprang into my room frantically. Shocked by my beaming index finger, she took my right away to the clinic.

I waited in great suspense for the doctor’s opinion. I was like a cat on hot bricks. The doctor carefully examined my finger. However, he frowned and groaned, he could not find the problem in my finger. My heart sank in the depth of despair. To cheer me up, my mum took a stroll with me to get some fresh air.

At the park, I shook my magic finger softly. At the same time, my legs ran as fast as lightning. When I competed with the lads, who were exercising in the park, my speed made up a strong puff of smoke that covered their faces. I was gleeful when I saw the lads running a lot slower than me. I shook my finger again. This time, my legs rumbled like a powerful engine, my head spun around 360 degrees. In seconds, I was a rocket blasting off into the sky, getting through the atmosphere, finally bouncing off into the outer space! I could be a superhero in the future. I was extremely excited that my teeth held for the whole afternoon. I said to myself, ‘It must be the magic finger which had given me amazing powers!’

At dawn, the sky turned dark, it was time to go. When I looked at my finger, it dimmed out of the blue. Though I was a bit disappointed, at least my finger turned back to normal. My mum sighed with a relief, her smile finally came back. I believed there was a fairy who gifted me this magical finger. If it was, I hoped was a fairy who gifted me this magical finger. If it was, I hoped that the magical power could last longer next time.

Adventure On the Millenium Falcon with My Magic Finger    MERIT
Caden Leung 3C

Unexpectedly, and with no clues at all, I woke up with a magic finger! It was six o'clock in the morning. I rubbed my eyes and noticed that I was lying on the deck o of Millennium Falcon! How strange. Suddenly, I heard some footsteps coming towards my direction. I used my magic finger pointing to where the footsteps were coming from. ZAP! A stream of light came out from my magic finger just like lightning. It projected a troop of stormtroopers marching into the Millennium Falcon. I quickly hid myself under a table and pulled a box in front of me.

The auto door opened and the stormtroopers stomped in. They used their scanner to search for their target. Just as they were about to scan my area, I turned pale and pointed my magic finger at them. To my surprise, they became as small as mice and ran back to their own base.

A minute later, Lute Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Obi-Wan stepped out from the smuggler’s compartment. They came to me and asked, ‘Who are you? How could you send the storm troopers away? I muttered ‘I... am uh...Caden Leung. I simply used my magic finger. ‘This startle Obi-Wan and he said, ‘Wow! That was amazing. You should join our mission to rescue Leia.’ I was very pleased and excited. Luke
agreed and added, ‘Caden, we are very happy to have you as our member. Now, let's all have a short break.’

After the break, I walked through the corridor and just before I reached the cockpit,
I missed a footing and fell into a deep, deep hole! I cried and yelled. Bang! I was lying on my bedroom floor. My back was in pain. I asked myself, ‘Was it a dream? Was I really in the Millennium Falcon helping my beloved Star Wars friends?’

Surprise!    MERIT
Jake Yip 3C

Surprise is as good as gold,
Good gifts never get old.
Going to Disneyland in holiday,
Would that just be great.
Unwrapping a Christmas present, finding it was a drone,
Happier than ever I made it a throne.
My sister gave me a book,
And in it was my favourite character The Hulk.
I got to a water park, went down a VR slide,
All of a sudden the water was dried.
I was so scared that I would be stuck,
Good for the workers saved me, and that was such a good luck.

My Wonderful Life Full of Surprises!    MERIT
Tyrus Butt 3D

I woke up in a warm dark place,
where I felt really safe.
All of a sudden, I got dug out from my cozy bed,
and heard a man said, "There he is!"
Then a couple gave me a huge kiss on each side on my cheek.
One on my left, one on my right,
they turned me into a sandwich under this strange man’s sight.

I closed my one eye for a minute,
and when I opened it,
I was holding a trophy,
which looked as amazing as a cup of smoothie!
People were cheering for me,
Oh, what a surprise!

Suddenly, my eyes went black.
When woke up,
I saw thousands of fireworks zooming and booming in the starry sky.
There were herds of crazy lions roaring,
"Happy new year!”
Oh, what a surprise!

I soon fell asleep,
then woke up with a peep.
I was surrounded by friends.
There were millions of balloons and
a soaring cake.
And on top of the cake,
There was a cake topper that said, "eight”.
Oh, what a surprise!

A Surprising Surprise Party    MERIT
Kayden Kwong 3E

Last Sunday was Mum's birthday. ‘Shall We go out today?’ asked Mum. 'I need to wash the car,’ Dad shook his head. ‘I need to study for my English dictation,’ I replied. ’I need to practice for my piano competition,’ said my sister.

Mum was disappointed. She thought everyone has forgotten her birthday,
so she decided to go shopping alone.

As the door banged, we smiled. ‘Mum is gone! Let's get started before the party,’
we all cheered. My sister wrapped the presents and hid them behind the sofa. I made Mum a fancy birthday card.

Dad went into the kitchen and started working on Mum's birthday cake. My sister and I decorated the living room with streamers, balloons and banners. I even picked
Mum's favourite music. We were excited monkeys.

Three hours later, everything was ready. ‘Mum is still not back. What’s taking her so long?’ we wondered. At that moment, we received Mum's message, ‘I am going to have seafood with Aunt Christy at Lamma Island. I won't be home till late.’

What a bummer! This really IS a surprise party!
