A Strange Man   SECOND PLACE
Harris Leung 4D

Have you ever met a strange person in your life? I have indeed and we eventually became good friends.
I always go to the playground near my home after finishing my homework. Recently, I saw an old man who sat on the bench and gazed at the swing sluggishly in the playground every day. He had a hideous, fully bearded face. There were rumours that he was a beggar and we should not go near him.
One day, a poor little girl cried loudly in the playground because she got separated with her mother. Without hesitation, I rushed towards the girl and tried to help her. Surprisingly, the strange man walked towards us. He comforted the girl with a warm smile and promised to look for her mother together. Within a few minutes, he found her mother in a nearby supermarket. We were all overjoyed.
After that, I had a little chat with him. He told me that he came to the playground every day because he used to bring his grandson there for the swings. However, his grandson had moved to the UK and he missed him very much. I felt sorry for him and ashamed of myself for believing the rumours without trying to confirm them.
After this incident, we became good friends and I learnt to believe nothing in what you hear, and only half of what you see.

Strange Creatures   THIRD PLACE
Ocean Leung 4D

What is this creature?
It looks so bizarre!

It is little, green, and fuzzy,
With sharp pointy teeth.
It has bright red eyes
and small, little feet.
It rolls on the floor,
and jumps around the door.
It’s growing bigger,
that gives me a big scare.
But it shrinks again,
I feel relieved.

It growls and shrieks,
it made glass crumble,
I freaked out and threw it out of the door!

What is this creature?
We’ll never know.

I Became a Character in the Book  MERIT
Bryceton Mo 4B

“How come Spiderman is sitting next to me?” Tom asked curiously. “Tom, it’s me, Bryceton. This morning, I found myself in this Spiderman suit that I couldn’t take off, so I used the uniform to cover up some parts,” I whispered to Tom as I didn’t want anyone to find out, but soon I was surrounded by a bunch of students. Spiderman fans flooded the classroom. I was thrilled and puzzled. All I could do was to take photos with them and show them my suit, stunts and webs.
Suddenly, my spidy-sense triggered. I sensed that someone needed help so I made up an excuse. Surprisingly, I was led to the President, stuck in a traffic jam. Then I remembered he was coming to our school for a visit.
Soon I landed on the roof of the black limo and asked, “Excuse me, Mr. President. Where are you heading? Perhaps I can help.” “Ah Spiderman? I’m a huge fan of yours. Can I get a lift to Ying Wa Primary School, please?” the President asked politely. “Of course! My pleasure! I could swing you over to the school,” I replied while grabbing him, jumping into the air, and soon shooting a web. I transported the President as fast as wind to the school safely. During the ceremony, he praised the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman for his help.
At the end of the day, the suit I was wearing faded away. I am now no longer Spiderman and back to my normal ten-year-old self.

A Strange Man  MERIT
Calvin Lau 4E

I said goodbye to my friend, John, and set off my journey of returning home. I was wandering into an enchanted forest, where the trees were joined together like a crowd of vivid green umbrellas. The branches swayed to the rhythm of the wind and their leaves fluttered like graceful butterflies. A grassy path headed down to the left. There was a ramshackle, ancient, black house at the end of the path.
Being curious, I crept around the house. I noticed there was a pair of strange, green eyes peeking through the window. I had sensed something dark moving behind the curtains. I began to feel cold. Icy dread prickled my neck, warning me that danger was near.
As I was trying to escape, it was already too late, far too late. A dark shadow loomed in front of me. It was an evil wizard. His growing, red eyes were bulging and fierce in his grotesque face. I was cursed into a dark crow. I was so hopeless and there was no one around me. I soared high in the sky and flew back home as fast as I could.
When I saw my parents, they were stunned and saddened by what I told them. Fortunately, I could still speak human language, so my parents understood what I said. They were determined to find the way of changing me back to human. Although we did not know what would happen, my parents gave me the warmest hug ever.

Time to Spill the Beans About UFOs!  MERIT
Duncan Chan 4C

“Unidentified Flying Objects” are known as UFOs, which are objects in the sky that are inexplicable. But what is the mystery behind the UFOs? The answer has remained ambiguous the past centuries.

It is time to spill the beans! The answer lies in Area 51. Area 51 is a top secret place in America. The enigmatic secrecy of Area 51 has made it the central component of UFO folklore. Although many people, such as influencers, have been desperately trying to get in there, the place is highly restricted, and many people have been arrested for trespassing. In addition, there is a myth circling on the web that if anyone has a breach of information regarding Area 51, they will be secretly assassinated by the US Government. Doesn’t this frighten you out of your wits?

Secondly, there has been lots of breaking news surrounding UFOs on social media, yet almost all are solely fabricated. The ones that seem most real are usually just clouds that look like cotton balls moving around. Therefore, the small amount of photos taken by the US Government creates a ray of hope that they might be real!

In conclusion, I believe with the gigantic size of the universe, the possibility of their existence is high. The mystery inside Area 51 may forever remain a secret, but I am curious about exactly what people are hiding from us? As humans, we have to continue asking questions and exposing these secrets, because anything is possible.

“Exploration” in Middle Earth  MERIT
Eric Ma 4A

One day, I opened my eyes to find myself amongst a group of dwarfs, thirteen to be precise. Usually, I would chat with them, but not now, not when I was crammed at the very edge of a mountain, and not when each step was a choice between life and death. When the head addressed me as Bilbo, I immediately realised that I was Bilbo Baggins, and the dwarf talking to me was called Thorin. We were on a quest for reclaiming the lands of Erebor.
A long time later, when we were climbing halfway up the mountain, it broke in half. We were astonished as hundreds of stone giants appeared before our eyes and began tearing chunks of mountain and hurling the stones at each other. When this stopped, all that was left were a colossal heap of stones. Thus, we continued our journey.
Suddenly, it rained cats and dogs. We had to find a cave for shelter and set up camp there. In a split second, hands shot out and grabbed us from behind, so I fainted.
When I opened my eyes, I saw a globin and he was trying to slay me. I closed my eyes and was ready for the worst. Nothing happened though, so I opened my eyes again. I was in my room safe and sound. Phew! It was only a dream, and with the book “The Hobbit” under my head.

Strange Creatures  MERIT
Marcus Wong 4B

I met the blobfish.
It was extremely miserable.
Deep on the ocean floor the ugly blobfish lies,
Blubbery lips, huge nose,
Staring beady eyes.
No bones,
No teeth,
Just a lump of slime!
Lying on the ocean floor.
It can’t swim
On its flabby belly.
Of all strange creatures, the blobfish is
The king!
But…that ugly blobfish,
Won’t hurt a living thing!
What a wonderful creature!
