Trust me, I am an animal         SECOND PLACE
Koo Ying Lap 3B

I like animals, I like zoo,
There is a funny place
where I can stay all day.

Elephants’ trunks are thick and long.
Rhinos’ leg are big and strong.

Pandas are black and white furry.
Zebras are black and white strippy.
Whales are black and white skinny.

Dolphins like diving in the pool so deep.
Seals like lying under the sun and sleep.

I like animals, I like zoo.
I asked zookeeper let me stay in zoo.
Zookeeper relied with a ‘No’,
bacause I am not an animal, so……

Tigers can roar and I can too.
Monkeys can shake hands and I can too.
Kangaroos like hopping up and down.
I like hanging upside down.
Lions have fur and I have hair.
Turtles eat fruit and I like pear.

I do the things that animals do.
‘Trust me, I am an animal too?’

Pancakes        THIRD PLACE
Dante Chang 3E

Pancakes delicious, pancakes yummy,
Let me swallow them down to my tummy;
Pancakes salty, pancakes sweet,
Pancakes powder you cannot eat.
Pancakes big and pancakes small,
Take some more and eat them all;
Pancakes brown and pancakes gold,
You can’t eat this because you’re old.
Pancakes flat and pancakes raised.
Let us play a pancake race;
Who win the race, will have a big prize,
The race starts at night, so you heed to bring a camp light.
Pancakes run and pancakes jump,
Please don’t always crash and bump;
Congratulations, you are the first one,
The prize is a pack of chewing gum!

Trip to the Zoo        MERIT
Choi Lok 3C

Mum and Dad took me to the zoo,
When the sky was clear and blue,
We heard the giant cows’moo
Smelled the horses’ smell poo,
And saw the funny little cuckoo.
Mum was allergic of the cuckoo,
So she sneezed, “Achoo!”
Dad handed her tissue,
But she accidentally chew,
So I shouted, “Noo!”
She took it out, held it in front of her nose and blew,
But now instead of the cows’ moo,
I heard the silly cat! Meow.

Bobo, the Dog          MERIT
Lucas Wong 3C

Bobo is a dog
It doesn’t like a frog.
A small, cute dog breed
It always needs to feed.
It likes to play tricks
What a huge mistake!
Oh my goodness! Bobo stop that!
You can’t go riding on the cat!
Round and round the tabletop
It ran and did not stop.
Boom! Bang! Crash!
It makes a big smash!
Back to the kennel
And don’t make any Trouble!

A Happy Trip         MERIT
Toni Wu 3D

On February 6th, my parents and I went to Shanghai to visit my relatives for Chinese New Year. The Flight took as two and a half hours. Shanghai was colder than Hong Kong, but I liked the cool breeze. It would like have been better if there was snow.

Before the trip, my mum spent a few days writing New Year scrolls and making pork moon cakes as Chinese New Year gifts.

On New Year’s Eve, we visited my great-grand-ma. She is 92 years old and in good health. She was happy to see the New Year scrolls my mom wrote to hang on the door. Then, she showed us a set of art work she made. She painted four classic Chinese plants: plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum on 4 goose eggs. On the back of them, she painted four animals: mantis, frog, shrimp and chicks. The colour of the flowers were vivid and the animals seemed to come to life. She said that she had to be careful with each stroke and she didn’t waste any eggs. I was amazed by her talent!

I realized that Chinese New Year is about love, giving and sharing.

My Favourite Food        MERIT
Jason Fok 3E

My favourite food is special. Do you want some hints? It is a kind of seafood. It has a shell. Its shell normally tightly closed. If the shell is open, it means that it is dead and unsafe for eating. It can be eaten alive or cooked to eat. How smart you are! Right! It is oyster!

I am an oyster lover. Whenever my family goes to western restaurant for buffet, I will be excited. I can take my favourite food of oyster. Its taste is marvelous and mouthwatering when served with lemon juice and tomato sauce. Oysters are nutritious food too. They are rich in protein and mineral, and low in calories.

Although many countries produce lots of wonderful oysters, I especially like French oysters. France has more than 2,000 miles of coastline which is favourite for cultivating good quality oysters.

Probably you may find a pearl inside an oyster, but the opportunity is scarce. There is only one oyster which contains a pearl in about 100,000 natural oysters. Apart from enjoying oysters, you can check your tuck too. What fun!

A Happy Trip       MERIT
Jonathan Ford 3E

When I was young, Daddy took me to an amazing country in Africa called Mali.

Firstly, we went to the capital city, Bamako. I loved the awesome markets and the very comprehensive textile museum. Once, a policeman stopped Daddy from taking a photo. However, he saw Daddy’s photo permit and said, “Allez! Bon vacance!” (Go! Happy holiday!)

Next, we took bush taxis to Mopti via D’ Jenne and the Falaise de Bandiagara. At D’ Jenne, we saw the world’s largest mud-brick mosque and a huge market. At the Falaise de Bandiagara, we took a horse and cart, and visited villages under an overhanging cliff.

After going to Mopti, we boarded a narrow boat to Timbuktu along the river Niger. The journey took 12 long days! We saw phenomenal sunsets on the way!

At Timbuktu, there were many mud-brick buildings and silversmiths crafting jewellery. We discovered this was from where camel caravans journeyed across the Sahara!

Finally, it was time to leave Mali; we took a lorry, sat at the back on sacks of charcoal and crossed the desert to Gau in Niger.

It was a great trip! I hope I can take you there.
