The English Department of Ying Wa Primary School (YWPS) is proud to produce FLAME Magazine yearly since 2008. This departmental magazine features students' writings, teachers' writings, inspiring school events, interesting knowledge and so much more. issues are produced annually. Print copies are distributed to our students and friends of YWPS. We hope this electronic version can add convenience to these wonderful books so that people all over the world can have a taste of what our department and children have been playing and working on! ​FLAME Issue 36 features our highly anticipated 20th anniversary project, "The Mysterious Mushrooms Musical", our school tours, students' marvelous work and feats and many more amazing contents!

​FLAME Issue 35 is a very timely issue showcasing our wonderful P.5-6 Singapore Study Tour, our brilliant results in the Speech Festival, as well as our very innovative project named TIME!

​FLAME Issue 34 continues with lots of "WaOW"s including the P.6's Korea Tour, Speech Gala and our many triumphs in competitions! This is surely a great sum-up of our year of English!

​FLAME Issue 33 reports a lot of "WaOW" news of our school including many WOW experiences from our teachers, our YW204 video winning the Popularity Award, our record-breaking Speech Festival results and many more WOW writings from our boys to share with you! This is truly a "WaOW" issue of FLAME!

FLAME issue no. 32 (Aug 2022)

​FLAME Issue 32 concludes the epic story of "To Be Continued" with students' interesting and sophisticated feedback. This issue also celebrates the many achievements of our boys including their writing, speech and drama prizes. In addition, more "English Time" (video) episodes are introduced. Have fun viewing!

FLAME issue no. 31 (Jan 2022)

​FLAME Issue 31 brings you to the world of "To Be Continued", which is the chapter-by-chapter story through which students experience throughout this school year as the learning theme. The magazine collects students feedback on the different chapters so far and other creative work produced based on them. Besides, fun events that teachers and students have joined are also reported.

FLAME issue no. 30 (Jul 2021)

​FLAME Issue 30 summarizes the entire year's activities in the perspective of English learning. For language arts, we appreciate the Speech Festival winners and creative writing awardees as well as the hard work of the participants of our first ever online Speech Gala! Of course, the excitement of our highly anticipated Night Activities are recaptured. Please enjoy this special issue!

FLAME issue no. 29 (Jul 2020)

​FLAME Issue 29 is the first Issue of FLAME being released as an e-magazine before a print one. The year 2019-2020 is surely a special one because of the school suspensions. This issue of FLAME captures a few moments and thoughts during the pandemic break and how our boys and teachers continued to strive for excellence during difficult times.

​FLAME Issue 28 is important and special in many ways. First, it is the first issue of FLAME produced under our new Principal Ms Sylvia Chan; second, it reports our achievements in the 71st Speech Festival despite the disturbance; third, it records our many creative works based on our brand new school theme of "How Too Obvious (H2O)", and there is so much more for you to explore. ​FLAME Issue 27 explains to you why English is AWESOME! Our students have had a marvelous Singapore study tour and a fantastic Government House visit. Also, this issue features the glimmering awards our boys received outside and the results of our annual creative writing competition. FLAME issue no. 26 (Jan 2019)

​FLAME Issue 26 sums up the exciting and adventurous first half of the school year featuring visits of VIPS, particularly CE Mrs Carrie Lam, Speech Festival triumphs and students' amazing journeys and creative works. Pay particular attention to our group winners at the Speech Festival - it is our first time having three group winners! Many videos are accessible through the QR codes, as usual!

​FLAME Issue 25 continues with the exploratory style from the last issue and displays a spectrum of fascinating English-related activities that students and teachers experienced, and that includes our Singapore Study Tour, Scotland Educational Trip, Speech Gala, writing/spelling contests, Explorer-based projects and more sparkling moments.

FLAME issue no. 24 (Jan 2018)

​FLAME Issue 24 has an exploratory design with a collage cover and a puzzling back cover for readers to decode! For contents, it has the traditional celebration of the school's speech and drama achievements and reports of students' "explosure" (massive amount of exposure!) overseas, locally and literarily, celebrating their adventurous learning to the fullest. Reflective essays of YWPS graduates are also being featured in this issue.

FLAME issue no. 23 (June 2017)

​The 23rd installment of FLAME continues to promote and feature the language arts aspect of our English language curriculum. Speech Gala recap, Creative Writing Competition results and other creative writings are being displayed. The exciting night learning activities on our school theme "WArchiLab" and the P.6's graduation tour in Beijing are being reflected on. And there is much more to read in this issue!

FLAME issue no. 22 (Jan 2017)

​The 22nd issue of FLAME has a theme of "Love, care and share", displaying a spectrum of English language activities showing students' love towards their learning, caring about one another and sharing things with people. In particular, the boys' huge success in the 68th Speech Festival was an effort from love to the subject; the Story Pilots Scheme shows lots of caring and sharing; and teachers' exchange experiences are all excellent learning materials to share to you all.

FLAME issue no. 21 (July 2016)

The 21th issue of FLAME is the richest issue so far, containing 32 wonderful pages of students' work and feats. This issue features students' visits such as their visit to PolyU and P.6's Beijing Tour; students' awards such as Speech Gala, Creative Writing Competition and Hong Kong Budding Poets Award; and also Mrs Lam's Canada trip with teachers. 6C's Marco's 4000-word epic story is partly displayed also with a link to the full text.

FLAME issue no. 20 (Feb 2016)

The 20th issue of FLAME has 24 exciting pages of students' brilliant work and achievements. Particularly, the magazine celebrates the great performances of our five award-winning speech and drama teams. Also, this issue features the impressive work of our creative writers under the school theme this year on food knowledge.

FLAME issue no. 19 (Jun 2015)

This 28-paged issue features exciting events such as the DSS School Principals' Ireland Study Tour, Taipei tour for our P.6 boys, Speech Gala 2015, and students' reflections from the "CIA" night activities. Furthermore, the issue celebrates the winning pieces of our Creative Writing Competition 2015 and other students' achievements in the subject of English this year.

FLAME issue no. 18 (Jan 2015)

This issue contains 28 pages, featuring our Ying Wa boys' exciting activities in the UK and our stunning performances at the Harbour Cruise for the 51st Conference of DGCA. Also, our sparkling results from the 66th Speech Festival are reported and celebrated!

FLAME issue no. 17 (Jun 2014)

This issue contains 24 pages, featuring the visit of the Chief Secretary for Administration Mrs Carrie Lam GBS JP, the Taiwan trip of the P.6 boys, as well as the fourth Speech Gala, adjudicated by Dr Verner Bickley.

FLAME issue no. 16 (Jan 2014)

This 24-paged  issue concludes the 10th anniversary celebration of YWPS as it reports the anniversary banquet as a grand closure of the series of memorable events. Also, the MILES programme (theme of school 2013-2014) is reported, as well as the record-breaking results of the 65th Speech Festival. 

FLAME issue no. 15 (Jul 2013)

This issue contains 20 pages. It features the kicking off of the school's 10th anniversary with a fun-filled party, followed by the memorable talent-showing Open Days. Also, the Ten Brother themed night activities are reported.

FLAME issue no. 14 (Mar 2013)

Issue 14 contains 20 pages starting with a creative staff photo with every teacher disguised as a member of the String Orchestra! Also reported are the 64th Speech Festival results, Speech Gala 2013, Poon Choi Feast and more!

FLAME issue no. 13 (Nov 2012)

Issue 13 has 20 pages featuring the mysterious Pearl-finding quest led by the adventurer Mrs Lam who travelled around Europe in the summer of 2012. The issue also records the insightful reflections of the students participating in the Cambridge Programmes 2012.

FLAME issue no. 12 (Jun 2012)

These 20 pages record the wonderful year of poetry we had, collecting the moving verses of our boys honoured by the Hong Kong Budding Poets Award 2012. Also, the glamorously sparkling atmosphere of the Ying Wa Fantasia and Speech Gala 2012 are captured.

FLAME issue no. 11 (Mar 2012)

The eleventh issue of FLAME produces 20 pages reflecting on the record-breaking Poon Choi banquet, talent-filled Art Exhibition, and the spectacular results from the 63rd Hong Kong Speech Festival. Also, the phenomenal work from the winners of our creative writing competition is showcased.

FLAME issue no. 10 (Oct 2011)

This 20-paged tenth issue is a celebration not only for being the tenth book in the series, but also for its report on our first batch of students joining the very inspiring Cambridge Programmes in the summer. Also thought-provoking are the Pearl quests initiated by our School Head as the theme of the year (2011-2012).

FLAME issue no. 9 (Jul 2011)

This issue has 20 pages. They have recorded fantastic moments of YWPS in the year 2010-2011 including the first occasion of Speech Gala, the night learning activities "Saving Polar Bear",  the very artistic and musical Ying Wa Fantasia, and the sharing from the Budding Poets awardees, to say the least.

FLAME issue no. 8 (Feb 2011)

These 20 pages of work shows the opening of our campus TV named "Wa Square", introduces Mr Patrick Wong, an old boy of YWPS and YWC, as well as announcing the winners of the creative writing competition. Writings related to the school theme (2010-2011), Project E, are also showcased.

FLAME issue no. 7 (June 2010)

This issue has 12 pages of memorable experiences to teachers and students alike. In particular, the various impressive thematic designs at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 and the stunning beauty of London (1st Hong Kong DSS Council Study Tour) are featured in this issue.

FLAME issue no. 6 (Feb 2010)

These 12 pages in the sixth issue follow the eco-friendly "Project E" theme of year covering content such as Headmistress's Iceland trip and students' creative work under the "green" theme. Results of creative writing competition 2009-2010 are also announced here.

FLAME issue no. 5 (June 2009)

Issue 5 of FLAME is 12 pages in length featuring reports of the first-ever night learning activity of YWPS - Ying Wa Star-warriors. In addition, you can find reflections from our graduates and a humorous section displaying a list of things your mum wouldn't say to you (thought up by our boys)!

FLAME issue no. 4 (March 2009)

These 12 pages of issue 4 feature the education camp of our P.6 boys at Mui Mo, the results of the creative writing competition (2008-2009) with the champion pieces published, and so much more.

FLAME issue no. 3 (Dec 2008)

The third issue of FLAME has 12 pages featuring the spectacular anniversary concert for Ying Wa's 190th anniversary, the intriguing decorations at the entrance of YWPS and the many creative works from our boys.

FLAME issue no. 2 (Jun 2008)

The second issue of FLAME is the shortest issue. It has 8 pages of content.  In the much heated atmosphere of the Beijing Olympics, the issue explores the origin of the Olympic Games. Also, words from YWPS's top musicians, P.6 graduates and other budding writers are included.

FLAME issue no. 1 (Mar 2008)

This is the inaugural issue of FLAME Magazine and it is the second subject-based magazine of YWPS (after Maths). This first issue contains 12 pages. It features an article on how boys learn, the results of our first English creative writing competition and an interview with a YWC S.1 boy, conducted by a YWPS P.6 boy.
