The Melody of Winter SECOND PLACE
Zenith Lee 6E
After a year of blaring hot summer, winter has finally come. And at long last, there is a white Christmas. When the first snowflake fell from the bleak sky, I was mesmerized by the Melody of Winter, and decided to write about it.
It was December 21st in the morning. I had a headache and went out for a walk. And wow, did it ease my headache. At first, the frosty wind blew by me, shaking the last leaf off the bare trees. I closed my eyes and stopped in my steps, feeling the coldness sweep across my face.
As I continued my walk, the frosty wind died down and the sky began to brighten, illuminating the broad sweep of clouds over-head. I admired the random yet beautiful pattern of the clouds, which was constantly morphing into new designs.
I noticed my neighbours pool had begun to freeze. Apparently, the wind had started again, the leaf danced through the wind, and decided to neither sink nor float on the thin sheet of iced crystal.
For a few minutes, everything was silent, as if the world had stopped in time. I thought the drama was over. I was wrong. The musical was just getting started.
I felt something cold on the back of my neck. When I reached to feel it, there was only water. I looked up at the sky, amazed by the discovery. And there it was, a whole avalanche of snowflakes, like a three-thousand-piece symphony waiting to be conducted, flittering and flying down towards me.
I watched in awe as the wind blew the snow in circles above the ground, the three-thousand-piece symphony ringing out around me. I lost all sense of thoughts, all I knew was the beautiful erratical pattern of the snow the wind was brewing. I caught a snowflake and watched a it, slowly but surely, dissolved into the nothingness. It was the perfect indication, that everything was blurry, yet everything was clear: it was a perfect match of yes and no, true and false, warmth and coldness, everything and nothing, dreamland and reality. I looked up, and there it was, my little leaf, right in the middle of the drama.
And this is me, a young man dancing through the wind and snow, conducting the Melody of Winter along with a trusty leaf and the northern wind.

The Realm beyond Realms THIRD PLACE
Richard Liu 6D
Tell me, what would you do if you found a mysterious coin taped to the bottom of your brand new bathtub? I expect you would throw it away. In retrospect, I wish I had as well, but I can’t change the past now. After a bit of unorthodox testing, I was able to determine that if you filled the bathtub with water, threw the coin in and then jump in with a toaster in your hands, you could go to the afterlife, where you would be greeted with abundances of food, drink and happiness as long as you never blabbed about the place.
I lasted an impressive five years before I finally cracked. Of course, no one believed me, so it was honestly all for nothing, but I still wanted to prove a point, so I did it for the last time. After the familiar splash and sounds of electricity crackling through water, I opened my eyes, expecting pearl-blue skies and residents of the afterlife to greet me warmly. I did not, however, expect to see a flat biome of purple stretching to the horizons, the only thing accompanying it a sign in front of me that read glitchy letters, “Welcome to the Realm Between Realms.”
Before I could react, a group of giant, floating, cloaked figures appeared before me. The one in blue thundered, “Unknown human, we know you are the one who have revealed the secrets to Elysium to the human world. For that crime and the sin of misusing the Elysia Coin, we sentence you to forever wander realm.” They proceeded to break apart a mug into eight pieces and perform a ritual on them. As they were scattered across the violet land, I felt a heavy toll set on my shoulders. With my last breath, I asked,” Who are you?”
They turned. The one in yellow replied, “We are the Council of Creation, bringing retribution to all that are deserving. May you never forget this name.” With this, they turned, and vanished.
So, if you ever find a coin on the bottom of your bathtub, here’s a warning.
Once you start, you can never go back.
Let’s see how long you last.

Year Tiger has gone,
Year Rabbit has been born,
Wishing you all happiness, good health and prosperity,
Life, energy and laughter, have come back to our city.
With hope, unity and courage in our hearts,
we can overcome any difficulties and make a new start.
Thank you doctors and nurses for healing the patience with braver and dedication. Words can’t express our heartfelt appreciation.
Thank you teachers for giving the creative lessons remotely.
Distance can’t stop us from chatting and learning continuously.
Thank you Mum and Dad for your love and care.
Getting sick? Stay home? School suspension? There’s nothing to fear!
What will happen this year?
The astronauts at the China Space Station may meet some aliens and cheer.
With the perseverance robot discover some secrets on Mars?
It’s my dream to fly to the universe glimmered with stars.
As I’m still young, I want to travel around,
And have WaOW adventures in different towns!
In the new year, I wish all wars would cease,
People can reunion with their families and have peace.
Hope disease will go away,
Everybody can laugh and play.
I wish all of you stay healthy and merry.
See you next year in the secondary!

A Broken Promise MERIT
Caleb Chan 6B
Her smile still vivid in my mind,
We’ve been apart for manty years
But no matter how distant we are
Her voice I will always hear.
She told me that she shall return,
Back to our comfy home.
But how long till she comes
Back to her comfort zone?
A pier of siblings
Were separated in many ways
But they promised each other
They’ll reunite one day.
Like a pair of shoes
They would be back together
The only question was when
Would they be together forever?
She was my morning sun
I was her wall against fear
We both needed each other
So we held our time together dear.
But she never came
She found a new family
So I was left forgotten
While she lived happily.

Should schools train students to become YouTubers? MERIT
Jayden Chu 6C
Nowadays, many students are interested in becoming a YouTuber, but should schools train to become YouTubers?
First, YouTuber is not a bad job. YouTube can improve the imagination and creativity. The good comments also provide motivation and outlets too! Students can get sense of achievement whenever their videos become viral. They can improve their social skills and no longer be timid by interacting with their audience or live.
Then, if schools train students to become YouTubers, it’s killing two birds with one stone. Schools training students to become YouTubers not only can create a diversified learning environment, and get students interested in school because they can learn more things other than just academic knowledge. According to some studies, many students chose YouTuber as their favourite job. By doing this, schools can also fulfill students’ dream, and help them pave the way for their future jobs. But, not every single student is interested in becoming a YouTuber, so schools should make this as an after-school class instead of replacing regular scheduled timetable to prevent them being dissatisfied.
In conclusion, I agree that schools should train students to become YouTubers. Because being YouTuber is good for students, and most importantly, training them to become YouTubers can interest to them in school and prepare for the future. I hope schools can start an after-school class related to YouTubers soon!

The Future Planes MERIT

As Astro and I travelled to the island to find my lost memory, I felt a weird and fishy aura coming from the mist that covered the island – danger.
‘Watch o –’ we crashed into something before Astro could his sentence.
When I woke up, I saw stalagmites hanging from the ceiling. Astro murmured and stomped the ground, ‘The mist turned out to be some kind of illusion. When we crashed, I saw the wall weaken, and we hit a wall of obsidian. I woke up in the water and we were glowing, as if we could manipulate water, so I grabbed you and dashed to the nearest cave.’
Ahead of us, we saw a hole leading to a light source. The hole was very narrow and we crawled out one by one, to reveal a beach filled with pebbles and connected to a civilized forest. In the distance, a spark of light – my memory – illuminated the entire forest. The spark enlightened the island – my lost memory.
We were walking through the forest and suddenly we were stopped by some people, all armed with advanced technology. Astro and I summoned a geyser of water and ran away from the guards, dodging and blocking lasers shot by them.
After 2 minutes of escaping, we finally reached the spark of light – my memory. As soon as I touched it, I started to glow brightly like a supernova and my memory was complete. I remembered I was a member of this civilization, which meant this quest brought me home. I spoke in their ‘unknown’ language, explained what had happened to me and we weren’t attacked again.
What an adventure to regain my lost memory!

Melody of Winter MERIT
Ethan Ngai 6E
A river, where crystal-clear water flowed in its past days, razor-sharp marks on its surface. A young child, at the age of approximately six or seven clapped with delight as his older sister, gracefully swept across the frozen surface like a swan.
Suddenly, a loud cracking sound could be heard clearly coming from the surface of the lake. A skilled somersault in midair easily dodged the sudden accident, as the two decided to return to the cabin without a sound. The cabin was made of thick wooden logs, which lifted up the roof with ease. The roof was like a piece of cake covered from top to bottom with a layer of white frosting, perfectly cut and decorated. Once in a while, the snow would fall off like an avalanche, and the icicles threatened to penetrate any unfortunate resident that dared to come near them. The incident just now reminded them that the winter wonderland was not like all it seems to be; dangers were lurking everywhere, out of sight.
Inside the simple cabin, a fire was lit inside the fireplace, sending black smoke into the air like a signal that indicated inside was warm. Hands reached out to the fireplace, where the fire crackled and timber was thrown into it to keep the fire on and on. The chilly wind howled like a ghost, sending shivers up their spines, while hot chocolate with being served as children gulped up the hot, creamy liquid.
Snowflakes fell, and sleds were dragged up the tiny hill -- this was winter’s melody; the melody would stay for years and years, never to be forgotten, ever ringing in people’s ears and hearts.
