A Night at the Pacific SECOND PLACE
Ambrose Young 4B
I am an American pilot. I fly the P-51 Mustang, one of the best fighters in the sky. My base is near the Pacific Ocean, so I sometimes have to fly above it to protect my base. Last night, I was sent to patrol as usual.
It was a rainy night, but I had a mission to accomplish. Two other pilots were also sent to patrol too. We made sure the engines were working and the guns were loaded, then took off down the runways one by one.
Pretty soon I was flying over the sea. It was calm and silent at first. But suddenly there was a sound, which I realized was a plane right behind me. Rat-a-tat. Rat-a-tat. It was an enemy, and it was firing at me! I looped and found myself right on the tail of one Zero. I quickly blasted it down, then radioed the base.
Two minutes later, a few more Zeroes and Japanese bombers arrived. Fortunately, the base had also sent some more P-51s and P-40s, and dog-fights started all over the sky. Together we shot down four more Zeroes and five bombers. The rest flew off before we could get them. We were exhausted by all the flying, so all of the pilots returned to the base together.
When we got out of our planes, people gathered to thank us for stopping the surprise attack. Then we all had a celebration party.
I felt so proud to win a battle for the U.S.A.!

A Night at the School MERIT
Monet Lam 4D
It was the first time that I had a chance to stay at school overnight. I had lots of fun, we cooked dinner all by ourselves, with food such as rice, fish balls and eggs. It was a very exciting night.
Our group leader, Justin Chan, said that I should be the chef. I was supposed to beat the eggs, wash the vegetables and fry the chicken, there was a lot to be done! It was time to eat our dinner. Mm! Delicious! The chicken was tasty and the vegetables were crunchy. Everyone said that I should be a chef when I grow up. After dinner, we played some ball games, such as volleyball, football and basketball. What fun!
It was time to sleep, we prepared our sleeping bags, blankets and went to bed. About an hour later, I heard some noise coming from the back stage, and then I saw a black shadow. At first, I thought that it was a monster with two heads, I quickly used my blanket to cover my head, but after a minute or two, I realized that it was only Mr. Dick’s shadow. What a relief!
We woke up at six o’clock in the morning. We were all very tired as we played a lot the night before. For breakfast, we had bread with jam. I think that the orange jam was very tasty, because it was very sweet. I had a very sweet tooth. After breakfast, we played a ball game. I always threw the ball on someone’s head by accident. It was a fun morning.
When it was ten o’clock, it was time to go home. Although I had a tiring night, it was very unforgettable. I would never forget this day in my entire life.

A Night at the Death Star MERIT

After I watched the movie “Star Wars”, I kept wondering whether it was fun to be in the Death Star. My curiosity pushed me to climb aboard the “movie machine”. I keyed in where I wanted to go and off I went.
Within five minutes, I arrived at the Death Star. It was night time. The stormtroopers were all yawning. They slowly walked to their dorms and prepared to go to sleep. The entire crew of the Death Star also went to bed. It was a perfect time for me to explore the Death Star. Then, I realized that I was just wearing normal clothes. So I quickly ran to the “movie machine” and asked, “Could you give a stormtrooper outfit and a helmet to me, please?” The “movie machine” granted my request and I dressed like a stormtrooper.
My exciting adventure at the Death Star began. I walked through the corridors quietly and tried to go to the Emperor’s room. However, it was locked. I could hear the Emperor snoring. Next, I took the central turbo-lift and arrived at the deck of “tie-fighters”. I saw lots of “tie-fighters” including Darth Vader’s personal “tie-fighter”. Then, I went to the super-laser control station. I knew it was the most powerful laser in the galaxy and it could destroy any planets. I tried to take a closer look at the control panel but suddenly, a man appeared in front of me. He wore a black helmet and a flowing cape. I immediately recognized him. He was Darth Vader – my favourite Star Wars’ character. I quickly asked him for his autograph and took a selfie with him. He was not as evil as I thought. In fact, he was quite nice.
“Rinnnng” – the alarm clock beeped loudly. I woke up at once. There were no stormtroopers, no Darth Vader and no Death Star. It was just a dream. It was such an amazing dream that I spent a whole night exploring at the Death Star.

A Night at the Age of Dinosaurs MERIT

Yesterday, a strange thing happened to me. I was sitting down on a sofa reading a book about dinosaurs. The next second, I got swallowed by the book. I spiralled down, spinning faster and faster. It seemed that I was dropping down for a thousand miles. Soon I fainted. All of a sudden, “Thud!”
When I woke up, I found myself in a dark, soggy and spooky cave. I crawled out and looked around. There were many animals staring at me curiously. It seemed like they were asking, ' Who are you? I haven't seen you before.' I looked up. There were many humongous trees blocking my view. I couldn't see the top of them. Suddenly, a huge shadow casted on me. I turned round. A famished T-Rex was dripping saliva, locking its gaze on me. I jumped out of my skin and ran as fast as I could. The T-Rex chased me through a rainforest. Soon I was tired of running and came up with a plan. I dashed between the trees and jumped into some bushes to hide. The T-Rex was looking around in confusion.
When it was out of sight, I tiptoed to a cave nearby. Suddenly a giant wing flapped in front of my face and gave me a fright. I turned round and found myself face-to-face with a gigantic pink bird with a sharp beak. The bird bent down in a swift motion and picked me up by the collar of its beak. It flapped its great wings and soared through the sky. I tried my best not to look down. I was afraid that I was going to throw up. After when seemed like a long while, there was a large thud and it seemed the bird had landed on something. A horrible smell filled my nostrils. I opened my eyes and found myself dangling above a young infant of the gigantic bird. The younger bird began to get excited and hopped up and down squeaking in high pitch. Suddenly, a large shadow cast upon the whole nest. A vicious looking purple bird landed on the nest. It scooped the squeaking baby bird in its basket. The pink mother bird opened its beak and made a horrible sound. I dropped hard onto the border of the nest. I tried to stand up but lost my balance. At that terrifying moment, I found myself falling backwards infinitely.
Then, I began to feel that I was suctioned out from the book! I opened my eyes, everything looked familiar again. I was back and I was sitting on the sofa again. Dad came in and asked, “Where have you been?”
I said , “You won't believe it even if I told you.”
