My Dreams SECOND PLACE
Ken Pan 4B
There’s a place where I go that no one knows,
Where mysteries abound and excitement grow.
A place out of reach from anyone’s hands,
Safely secluded in a faraway land.
It is a place I’d rather be,
Than parks and playgrounds or the library.
It is where I keep my secrets, fears and regrets,
Away from the world and all of its threats.
In there, wishes and hopes come to reality,
So real, so extraordinary.
I see myself as a successful author,
My books and novels getting better and better.
I see myself as an athlete,
Having my first victory and as happy as a dog with a bone.
This place is mine and mine alone!
It is the only place I can call my own.
I treasure the moments spent at this realm,
Where everything is possible and I’m out the helm.
This place I describe is all that it seems.
It’s a magical place I call my dreams.

The Little Alien and I THIRD PLACE
Omeo Wong 4E
It was Chinese New Year Eve. I was asleep in my bed when – CRASH! – and then – THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! – an explosion and the noise of loud footsteps woke me right up.
Now, that was strange. So I peeped out of my window to see what the racket was about. A rocket made out of cheese was in flames, and a strange alien the size of a 5-year-old was running across the road.
“ZWAP!” Turning around to see who it was, I saw the alien standing behind me. He was neon green, with a huge eyeball and two trumpet – like ears. Motioning me to come forward, he led into a wormhole. My room disappeared behind me.
“BLOOP!” I came out on the other side, all twisted up. Realizing I was wearing a spacesuit, I found myself heading toward the “Red Planet”- Mars. It was a dream come true.
As we hit the ground, the alien began to tell his story in Martinese, which I could somehow understand. Turned out he was coming to celebrate the Lunar New Year, but his cheesy rocket ran out of fuel. I could tell he had more to say, but suddenly – WHOOSH! – I was sucked up by a sandstorm. The last thing I heard was a “BLOOP”, then I let out an ear-piercing scream.
“HEEEEEELLLLPP!!!!!”
Just then, I heard my alarm clock ringing. I was gaping at my bedroom, realizing it must have been a dream.

Holding Fast to Dreams MERIT
Skye Chui 4A
Hold fast to dreams.
For if dreams alive,
Life is a flying high-winged eagle.
That your dreams can arrive.
Hold fast to dreams.
For if dreams come,
Life is a fruitful plum.
Hold fast to dreams.
For if dreams die,
Life is a pond.
That will be dry.
Hold fast to dreams.
For if dreams go,
Life is a burnt electric bulb.
That cannot glow.
Hold fast to your dreams.
For if dreams disappear,
Life is an empty world.
That we are in fear.

The Little Elephant and I MERIT
Rosco Chan 4C
One day, while I was walking in the country park, I suddenly found a cave.
I was curious about what was inside the cave so I got in. I was very shocked when I got in because there was an elephant smaller than me! The elephant said, “I am small because one day I found some magic drinks and drank them”. He also told me that he liked to be small because it would be easier for him to do things.
I told him that a lot of animals want to change their size too. He agreed to help me find those magic drinks, just then, I noticed that there was a door and we got in.
We saw a lot of enormous monster’s inside. They were protecting the magic drinks. We tried to fight with them but they were too strong. I nearly got hurt and the monsters were coming to attack me! I was very frightened. Suddenly, I saw a “Time-stopping Button” and had an idea. I yelled to the little elephant, “Push that ‘Time-stopping Button’!” He crept to it in a jiffy and quickly pushed it. It was very easy because he was tiny so all the monsters could not see him. When he pushed the button, the monsters all froze but we did not. We defeated all the monsters very quickly and finally found the magic drinks with the formula of it!
We took the formula and the magic drinks back and made a factory of producing them. Many animals bought them and we lived happily in the country park.

The Universe That Has Spoken MERIT
Aurelius Wong 4C
As I laid before the dark starry sky,
A revelation came upon my eyes.
I thought of Earth and her hindrances,
And looked upon humankind with despise.
For all around the world every year, animals are dying,
And what was the cause of all this death? The clues lead back to mankind.
So took upon myself rectifying
Our species ancient sinners mind.
I hope the rest of them decide to follow,
For our brains may be large, but our hearts are hollow,
Because some how we manage to every day,
To treat our peers lives like throwaways.
My thoughts were thus, and for some reason I thought I could
Hear the universe’s cries
And so I promised that I would
Ask my fellow humans do apologize.
My ideals were this: humans should repent,
And should acknowledge that our time is spent.
We should also recognize our past wrongs
And right them, because we are strong.
O’er the mountain and o’er the skies,
There lies a universe so good and wise.

The Universe MERIT
Marcus Tsang 4D
How vast is the Universe?
How can we be sure?
It’s bigger than a billion galaxies,
It’s ever expanding,
It’s ever growing.
How vast is the Universe?
How can we be sure?
It’s wider than a billion light years,
Its expansion is ever accelerating
Its size is ever escalating.
How mysterious is the Universe?
How may we ever know?
It’s stranger than fiction,
It’s ever mystic,
It’s ever enigmatic.
How mysterious is the Universe?
How may we ever know?
Not even Isaac, Albert & Stephen can tell,
It’s ever arcane,
Its secrets always remain.

The Griffin MERIT
Aden Su 4E
There was once upon a time a King. He had no son, but an only daughter who had always been ill. A peasant’s youngest son, Hans, brought the most beautiful apples in the whole kingdom. As soon as the King’s daughter had eaten some of those apples, she was cured. But now the King did not want to give his daughter in marriage to Hans as he promised yet, and demanded Hans to bring him a feather from the Griffins’ tail.
When Hans arrived before the King, with a beautiful feather from the Griffin and a lot of treasures, the King asked him how he had come by them. Hans told him that the Griffin gave every one whatsoever he wanted. So the King thought he himself could make such things useful, and set out on his way to the Griffin.
Hans asked the King’s daughter where the King had gone. She answered him that the King had gone to the Griffin. “My father is obsessed in fortune.” Hans, shocked said, “He’s in danger. He’ll drown.” So Hans brought a few knights to the lake. Just as they arrived the man by the lake dropped the King in the middle of the lake. The King was floundering in the lake, desperately trying to stay afloat. He slowly lost consciousness.
At that moment, Hans rescued the King. The knights arrested the man by the lake and threw him in jail. As the Griffin said, “If he only put one man down in the middle of the lake, he would never have to carry another across.”
The King understood that he had been cruel and greedy, “I am not worthy of the throne.” Full of regret, he told Hans shamefully, “You are honest, wise and brave. You accomplished all the tasks. You overcome all the challenges. No matter what happens, you keep your good heart. You will make better King than me.” Hans married the daughter, and became King.
