The Road to Success SECOND PLACE
Gordon Cheng 6E
The road to success,
Is not just to impress.
It’s like playing chess,
What is your progress?
There are lots of considerations,
And also hard decisions.
Would you do revision,
Or watch television?
There are truths that are untold,
And danger to behold.
You have to face them bold,
And be sure the good roads are patrolled.
Don’t fall for temptations,
It could lead you to destructions.
It could be the cause of conversations.
Or perhaps some impressions.
The road to success,
Can lead you unless:
You decide to have a recess,
And work less.

A Proposal to Solve Traffic Problems in Hong Kong THIRD PLACE
Aden Su 6E
As most of us know, Hong Kong’s traffic problems are very serious. We all have the experience of being stuck for more than half an hour, just to get INTO a tunnel. The worst thing is that there isn’t even an accident. The only reason is that there are too many cars. I have three ideas that could help ease the traffic problems of Hong Kong.
Firstly, I think that if the MTR lowered its cost, it would draw more people towards this form of transport. It would be a win-win as the MTR would receive more passengers and it would ease traffic!
Next, Beijing has a very special way of controlling the number of vehicles on the road called the “Odd-Even License plate policy”. Each day, they will only allow either cars with odd number license plates or even number license plates to drive. Although there must be exceptions for lorries and buses, who’s drivers rely on driving for a living. This method was put into effect during the 2008 Olympic Games and it has proven to be quite effective.
Lastly, we can encourage working from home. Of course, in the pandemic, no encouragement is needed to do so. However, with the proper tools, such as productivity software and communication tools, it can produce much the same results as working in an office. This can also reduce the number of carson the road as there is less need to drive to work. In fact, out of the 89% of people who benefited from WFH, 25% said it was because it saved time commuting.
So in conclusion, we can solve traffic problems in Hong Kong by lowering public transport fares, establishing vehicle number limitation policies and encouraging working from home. As they say, ‘Time is Money’ and these methods can help us save time on the roads.

On My Way to School MERIT
Cyrus Soo 6A
One morning, bringing a carnivorous plant for the General Studies class, I went to school with Max, my best friends, who lived not far from me.
On our way to school, the plant began to wither, it looked as if it were going to die. I asked Max, “What should we do?” My heart was then trembling like an earthquake. At this moment, Max suddenly thought of a great idea. He ran to a nearby park where a gardener was working and asked for help to save my plant from dying. The gardener gave him a bottle of “Immediate Plant Growth” and told him to add one drop onto the plant and went away. Max however pored the whole bottle.
After a while, the carnivorous plant came back to life but it kept growing and became as big as a car. It finally stopped growing when it was as enormous as an elephant. “Roar! Roar!”, the plant roared. Max yelled, “Help!Help! The huge plant is chasing us!” After a period of running and screaming, I came up with a fantastic idea. It needed two to tango so we both took action simultaneously. I grabbed a rope and Max held the magnifying glass under the sun over the carnivorous plant to burn it. We had tried thrice before we finally succeeded. The heat made the plant shrink. When it returned to its normal size, we poured some water to put out the flame and it became as if nothing had happened.
Then we hurried back to school, carrying the strange plant. It was really an illusion once in a blue moon. I hope this terrifying but exciting experience will never happen to me again.

The Milky Way MERIT
Nicholas Lo 6A
Our galaxy is a part of the Milky Way,
It is where billions of stars lay.
Our Sun is the biggest object in our solar system,
But extreme stars in outer space dwarf him.
Space exploration has always been hard,
Sometimes losing contact or spacecraft hitting asteroid shards.
Maybe sometimes it is alien attacks,
But the government always covers up the tracks.
Most of the plates are made of gas,
But there are exceptions of molten lava or rocky mass.
The only known planet with life is Earth,
The first reptile that hatched from an egg and the first mammal birth.
Extraterrestrial life is reported to be seen around the globe,
And no one knows who they are going to probe.
Area 51 is very mysterious place,
Some say it contains an alien research base.
The truth of the space is always a mystery,
And if anymore finds out he’ll go down in history.
The Milky Way is broad and wide,
Is it interesting you decide!

The Milky Way Galaxy MERIT
ALfred Ng 6B
The Milky Way Galaxy contains our Solar System,
It is an outer space kingdom.
Although it is humongous,
It’s not the only one in front of us
During the day, it hides in the sky,
But it shows itself when the time is high.
Take a look at this beautiful sight,
You can only see it in the night,
This beauty hides a ton of mysteries,
Scientists will soon unlock them with their studies.
The number of stars is around 400 billion,
That’s a lot of stars if you ask for my opinion.
We all live within the Milky Way,
Space missions to explore are always underway.
Every time they go they have to adjust,
And there might be impostors* living among us.**
*The gone Among Us reference, and impostors to represent aliens.

On My Way to School MERIT

“Help!”
I was on my way to school one morning when I heard a desperate cry of a woman. Wondering what the problem was, I decided to turn aside from my usual route to investigate.
The cry was coming from the other side of the rubbish compound. My curiosity grew stronger as I moved closer towards the sound. To my surprise, it was a young woman who looked like she was in her twenties, with delicate features that were lightly made up. She was dressed nicely in a business suit, and was wearing a pair of ultra-high-heeled shoes. She looked like a typical business executive that one could find a plenty in Hong Kong. But however, she looked worried. A mask of tears was forming in her eyes, and a look of distress was on her face.
It was not a good place to hold a conversation, due to the stretch that was coming out from the rubbish compound, so she tried to make her story as short as possible.
She told me in a worried, uncomfortable voice, “ I am going to have an interview today, and I had forgotten to bring my Octopus card, and I accidentally dropped the only coins I have and they rolled into the bin centre through the gap under the door. I don’t want to risk dirtying myself since I was all dressed up for the interview.”
Suddenly, the hero in me arose and I offered to help her find the coins. She thanked me profusely and apologised for any inconvenience that might cost me. Without further ado, I ventured into the bin centre. The sunlight poured into the bin centre through the vent and the now open doorway, and glinted on the coins. I collected them rather easily.
Before handing the coins to the lady, I cleaned them carefully, for I knew she didn’t want to soil her hands. Gratefully, she took the coins, and thanked me for my help. With that, she quickly departed.
As I made my way home that evening, I bumped into the same lady again. Satisfied, she told me that she got the job and will receive high salary every month. To express her gratitude, she pressed a ten-dollar ice-cream voucher. I declined, but she said, “You deserve it.” before walking away with a big smile on her face.
It turned out to be a happy day for me, and I decided to help others more often from then on.

On My Way to School MERIT
Timothy Leung 6B
It was a great morning which everything seemed normal. I finished my morning routine and went to school as similar to every weekday. The distance between my home and school was just at a 10 minute walk. I was so familiar with the route that I could even walk by closing my eyes. I practised my music competition song while trotting along the streets. When I was waiting for the elevator to the bridge, I noticed there was a pink neon sign flashing on the opposite road, and it was written, “New Candy Shop Opened!”. Following my curiosity, I decided to explore what was there.
After passing the crossroad, I was amazed by the candy shop for having more than 50 kinds of candies! I totally forgot the journey to school and was attracted to it. Suddenly, a young man with a face mask ran towards the shop with a gun, and yelled, “This is a robbery, everyone crawl down!” Everybody was frightened and panicked. Then, he quickly grabbed all the money from the cashier. At that moment, two policemen who were patrolling saw the scene. They immediately took out their guns and persuaded the thief to surrender.
At the juncture, the perpetrator hostaged me and intimidated the policemen to leave, or he would shoot me. I was extremely anxious and terrified, and I thought to myself, “Calm down, calm down!” But things were unpredictable. The policemen received a shoot-to-kill order and they shot the criminal who was just next to me at the scene and saved me.
After the robbery, the police asked me to make a statement. I explained to the teachers what happened and they were shocked. This was the most dreadful experience I had ever met, and I hoped that it would never happen again.
