The Future SECOND PLACE
Ian Kim 5D
This is the e-age when science and information and communication technology rapidly develops, and the advancement has changed our lives and the way we learn. It is our inevitable choice to adapt to the fast- changing world and establish a future school that builds on the advance in technology.
It is not surprising that in the near future, the school layouts will change and so will the way we learn. Students no longer have to sit still in the classroom for lessons because they can learn in a casual setting where they operate within an open informal space and roam freely amidst the instructors.
I believe students will have digitally personalized desks. The desk itself can be used for note-taking, making diagrams, reading e-books and accessing information.
With the help of haptic technology and virtual reality, students are allowed to have a more effective and advanced learning environment. Students can learn in a simulated environment and gain first-hand experience of practice. For example, they may dissect a virtual frog for biology, or gain authentic experience in roles. This would allow students to learn quicker through trial and error. Although there are many advantages through e-learning, it can never replace face to face learning. While we’re enjoying the benefits of technology, er should be wise enough to distinguish the right from wrong. Don’t over-rely on or be addicted to technology. After all, human touch is essential.

A Letter to McDonald's Board of Directors THIRD PLACE
Hayden Poon 5E
Dear McDonald's Board of Directors,
Recently, I have seen a piece of news about McDonald's fries containing a cancerous substance called acrylamide. I think that it is unacceptable because a famous international fast-food restaurant should serve food that is safe to eat. Acrylamide is produced when we fry starchy food in a high temperature, tertiary oil recovery, and the manufacture of permanent press fabrics. How come such toxic substance could be present in our food? With regards to this I would like to provide you a few suggestions:
1. Use a lower temperature
Instead of using a high frying temperature, use a lower one. Although it could be time consuming, your food will be free of Acrylamide and safer for customers.
2. Types of potatoes
Since Acrylamide is produced when starchy food is fried, so it would be better if less starchy potatoes are used. Besides, using thicker cuts of fries might reduce Acrylamide content as well.
3. Delete fries from the menu
First of all, deep-fried fries is not healthy anyway, so I suggest deleting it from the menu. Alternatively, sweet potato fries could be used instead. Sweet potato is a lot healthier than white potato as it is more nutritious. Moreover, customers could replace fries with corn cups.
I hope that there will be a follow-up with this issue. I am looking forward to your reply,
Yours Faithfully,
Hayden Poon

The Future MERIT
Jaden Chan 5A
A lot of people always try to imagine about what the future looks like. I also will. Let me tell you my thoughts.
Firstly, I think technology will be many more inventor and they will invent more machines. I think the most popular invention will be the time-machine. A lot of inventors will try to make it. If any inventor can invent it, a lot of people will buy it in the highest price!
Secondly, I think people will be more cautious about the problem of pollution. People will make more recycle bins and stop throwing rubbish in the rubbish bins. They also will not pollute the air in the chimneys of the factories that way, the Earth will be healthy!
Finally, I think the police will have upgraded weapons, such as swords, shields, guns, bombs and a lot of others. That way, people won’t dare to break the law and we will be safe!
In conclusion, the future will be safer, cleaner and more convenient, so I'd like to live in the future more than now!

The Revenge of the Alien Ghosts MERIT
Michael Lo 5B
One night when I was sleeping,
I heard a whirring sound and strange lights.
I wanted to go out and see,
But sorry, I was in my tights.
So I changed in to everyday clothes
and looked out of the house.
There was a girl standing
outside wearing a blouse.
She hovered in the air,
gliding as fast as a boat
Then I figured out
She was an alien ghost!
I ran to dial 999,
but my cell phone had disappeared.
The aliens stole my cell phone
and I saw it be sucked.
The aliens flew in Earth’s orbit
and shot everything in sight.
But luckily the place I squeezed
into was really, really tight.
How should I escape?
Well, I haven’t decided it yet.
Can you help me plan one?
I’ll give you a hundred bucks for winning the bet.

The Alien Attack MERIT
Jeffrey Wong 5B
It was a peaceful day,
A football got kicked to the space.
It landed on Mars’s bay,
which hit the Alien King’s face.
The Alien King got angry,
He rode his spaceship and came to earth with his army,
“Balack-a-lot-burse!”
The aliens screamed.
They looked like they did a curse,
Loads of super-lasers they beamed.
The day the aliens attacked we had to hide,
We had to dodge and we hoped we could go on a UFO to have a ride,
The place they destroyed our beautiful home we pride,
We regretted to kick the football up to the sky.
The Aliens’ UFO suddenly started to flash,
“esrub-tol-a-kcalab!” The Alien King reversed the “Curse”.
The Alien army dashed to outer space that nobody could catch.
I don’t know why they went away.
But at least we could play along the way,
And we had another peaceful day.

I'm an iPhone MERIT
Angus Chan 5C
I am an iPhone. People also call me “Smart Phone”. So you can imagine how smart I am. Let me tell you about my strengths one by one.
First of all, I am good at communication. To transcend the traditional mobile, I have “Facetime” function, providing visual conversation. Besides, I assist people using “Whatsapp” for texting message or voice recording, making communication more efficiently. I connect people closer to each others.
Furthermore, like a camera, I can take photos and send them to others in a more convenient way. Without doubt, I can handle video recording as well. People can capture memorable moment by me. That’s why I’m so popular among all walk of life.
Apart from the above, I really excel at problem solving. My special feature “Siri” serves as an encyclopedia. I am able to answer your questions, even give suggestions and recommendation. Similar to a computer, I become a tool for surfing the Internet. However, computer is so big that people will not carry it all time. Instead, people love to go with me everywhere. I am so helpful. Nowadays, people can check their e-mail via iPhone anytime. In addition, instead of using a physical map, I can help drivers to find their destination by the google map.
Last but not least, I form part of the entertainments. People can enjoy their leisure time with me by playing mobile games, watching TV, reading e-books, etc.
In this technology-driven era, I am full of intelligence, interaction and practicality. If you use me in a proper way and do not indulge in playing, I will become your good friend. Remember me, I’m an iPhone.

My Emotions MERIT
Lee Ho Long 5C
Emotions are the twenty-four hours of a day.
Hopefulness is the twilight before sunrise.
Like receiving parents’ high praise and encouragement,
Mt heart will habitually sense as hopeful as a wishing ball.
Happiness is the sunrise.
While meeting with old friends,
I’ll honestly be as happy as a clam in habitat.
Cheerfulness is early morning.
Just as somesone talls me good news,
I’ll of course be as cheerful as a charming grove in Spring.
Proudness is midmorning.
Once awarded with prizes under special occasions,
My feeling will be positively as proud as a peacock.
Interestedness is noon.
Whatsoever I play with my peers,
I’ll irrestibly show as interested as the suppoters of Star Wars.
Excitedness is early afternoon.
Upon visiting a theme park,
I’ll be as excited as the eager spectators in an excellent concert.
Calmness is midafternoon.
Subsequent to examination period,
My conclusive mood will completely be as calm as a millpond.
Loneliness is the sunset.
As saying goodbye to my teachers and classmates after school,
I’ll likely feel as lonely as an isolated land.
Regretfulness is the twilight after sunset.
If opportunities are missed,
I’ll repeatedly be regretful as a reluctant farewell to my buddies.
Dullness is early night,
Whenever I am stuck in tackling challenges,
I’ll definitely be as dull as ditchwater.
Sadness is midnight.
In case my pet dies,
my broken heart will somehow be as Sad Sam.
Hatefulness is the late night.
Should activities with schoolmates be cancelles in rainy days,
I’ll horribly feel as hateful as hell.
