There were two rounds to the competition – the Semi-finals and the Championship Finals. Ten “bees” were chosen by a lucky draw from each class as representatives. In the first round, each bee had to spell a word correctly under 6 seconds. There are 20 words in total. A great team of English Captains would help to record and mark the bees’ answers. The three classes in the year form that achieved the highest scores would be enrolled into the Championship Finals, which were held immediately after the Semi-finals.
In the Championship Finals, three students were chosen by lucky drawn from the three remaining competing classes. This time, the student had to spell the word out in front of a much larger audience and the time limit was only 15 seconds. The words would certainly be more challenging, but our boys were more than ready to fight for the bee “crown” for their class!
After three nerve-racking but rewarding lunch recesses of only 25 minutes, the following hives of “bee kings” were crowned:
