Budding Poets of YWPS Sparkle Again!

[15 Jun] Happy results from the Hong Kong Budding Poets Award 2022/23, the most prestigious poetry prize for Hong Kong students: three poems from our P.6 boys have made it to the award list and they will be published in the contest's anthology! The award ceremony was held in the hall of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong on 13 Jun.

The three pieces are given respectively an Honourable Mention (Eric Lai 6E), a Bronze Prize (Ethan Ngai 6E), and a Gold Prize (Keith Cheung 6B), which is the top prize. Congratulations to these three young YWPS poets for their wonderful feat!

Not only is it truly amazing that we have multiple poems selected into the top list of 19 pieces from hundreds of entries, we were the only boys awarded in the primary category, at least from what we saw on the stage at the ceremony! Quite remarkable isn't it?

It is truly an honourable thing to be able to participate in the Hong Kong Budding Poets competition, and winning the gold prize. Most importantly, I need to thank Dr Lee for teaching me poetic skills and also supporting me throughout the whole progress. I would never have won if without his help. Hopefully I can continue in my path of poetry and keep improving!

It was a pleasurable and proud moment when I was standing on stage, receiving the prize. I had won the most prestigious poetry prize, and my poem had been chosen out of hundreds if not thousands of entries. I truly thank you Dr Lee for giving me this opportunity to enter the competition and his helpful suggestions leading me to success. Once again, thank you and I hope to keep improving on my poetry skill with the help of Dr Lee.

It is an honour to participate in the Hong Kong Budding Poets competition, and the bronze prize was definitely unexpected! Thanks to Dr. Lee's useful comments and suggestions, I edited my poem, and submitted it. Just when I forgot about the competition in a few weeks, I received a message that I had been chosen about of more than a thousand entries, and got a bronze prize. Big thanks go to Dr. Lee for entering me in this meaningful competition, to enhance my poetry skills, and also thanks for his support!
