Amazing Bees!

6/28/2016

Picture
Bees have long been recognised as tireless workers that work hard as a team, on 24th June, a group of “bees” in Ying Wa Primary School showed us the qualities of hard work and team work.

Three students from every class of Primary Four and Five joined the final round of the Spelling Bee Competition. It was held in the English room during free time. The spellers took turns to spell the words given by the teachers in two minutes. All the teams demonstrated enthusiasm and worked wonderfully with a good team spirit.

The first place for Primary Five goes to Class 5C and 5D, who were able to spell 29 words in two minutes. As for Primary Four, Class 4C crowned the champion for spelling 32 words within the time given! How amazing our “bees” are.

A Dramatic Morning!

Seeing everybody’s hard work combined into a dramatized climax at the end of term is surely nothing short of memorable and sensational.

Our annual Drama Show “Drama Fiesta” was successfully held this morning in our school hall with different teams performing live or in videos; rehearsed or improvised. I was well aware that these teams had been struggling with so many clashes of schedules that limited their rehearsal time and that the extreme over-booking of the hall had made it impossible for these young performers to have perfectly readied themselves before their real performances. However, the effort from students and teachers gave a much bigger impact than anything else. I was especially moved by seeing students, whose English grades might not be sparkling, having the chance to express themselves and have fun on the stage.

We did not have a long programme this morning, yet each show left a great impression in me. Mr Richard’s directed play “Who Is Your Neighbour” sent a strong message on equality between people of different origins; Mr Ching’s award-winning work “Why Can’t You Do It Yourself” was very relevant to students these days who might be over-relying on housemaids; the junior video “Snow Bright and the Seven Sumos” was very wittily made and humorously delivered while the recorded winning performance of our Thematic Group Speaking work “I’m a Hero” showed great voice performance and literary knowledge of our senior boys; what impressed me the most was however the improvised drama competition for the P.6 classes. Who the winners were was not important at all when we could see how much quality improvisation the boys could come up with in 10 mins. Each improvised story was structured thoughtfully and some even had a strong moral behind. The performers certainly had a good time with the much entertained audience.

Here, I would love to thank several parties: our drama coaches for their very hard work these months, Mrs Ho for organizing this event, our video making teams for the great clips, Ms Jessie (YWC) for her visit and support, all other teaching members who had offered help in different ways in the process of building our drama curriculum, and certainly, Headmistress Mrs Lam for joining the show with the children.

Yes, the show's over, but the memory stays with you, especially when you see their dramatic faces, on and off stage.

Panel Chair

An Epic Creative Story from Marco Chan

Marco Chan from Class 6C does not only excel at swimming. This gentleman is also a talented budding story writer! Thanks to his playful character, he has been "awarded" by his English teacher to do extra writings throughout the year. And to everybody's amazement, he decided to write a multi-chaptered tale! And here it is...his epic 4000-word fantasy story "THE HOLE".

What a pleasant graduation souvenir he gives to his English teacher, his readers, and himself!

Check it out and enjoy the journey!
