Mr Simon Tham (right) presented the "Best of the Best" awards and other prizes to the English awardees.

The Annual EduOscar at Ying Wa Boys Primary School has become an event that is much anticipated by both the awardees and the awards-presenters.  For the former, it is understandable; for the latter, it is also an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy what is in store for them as participants.

Each year, the list of awards-presenters  reads like a "Who's Who", both in the educational field as well as from other walks of life, including corporate, judicial, entertainment, scientific and of course, their dedicated alumni.

Each year, the achievements by these boys have been astonishing, exhilarating and exciting. As they troop up the catwalk to receive their prizes, the thundering applause from their schoolmates, parents, teachers, and especially their Principal, Maria Lam, who is always over the moon for each and every boy , is most heartening and encouraging.

And of course, the entertainment during the presentations both by the teachers and guest presenters is one of a kind, which can only be witnessed at Ying Wa.

I have been very fortunate to have been invited twice to this event, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Former English Department Consultant

6B in jubilation with FLAME Issue 21
Our Chinese, Mathematics and G.S. magazines have been launched already, and so has our English FLAME magazine TODAY! As I received this issue, my heart accelerated in excitement. This is going to be the last FLAME magazine I will get in my primary school life. I bet many of you “fans” have waited for this day too!

FLAME never fails our expectations. In this issue, a lot of our unique school events are displayed, for example, our P6 graduation trip to Beijing. I’m sure that this issue has undoubtedly evoked our students’ memories towards the wonderful moments we had this fruitful year.

Moreover, this issue allows us to see the numerous awards students have earned. Unquestionably, they must have devoted a lot to achieve these results. In addition, our teachers can really encourage our MINI-writers to develop interest towards story-writing.

With the vibrant photos as background, this issue of FLAME really captures our hearts. It is a roundup of this term’s special events and a very meaningful masterpiece for us all. Are you excited about the next issue?

It is not easy to win this prize. And very importantly, their final interview performance did convince the judging panel that they are truly active readers of English and have a genuine passion in reading.

For this, the English subject panelists and Headmistress have approved that these 10 boys to be the winners of the YWPS Reading Championship 2016.

The award is scheduled to be presented at the term-end ceremony on 4 July.

This is the third consecutive year the English Department presents the Reading Championship. Information about this school-based contest can be found here.

Happy reading!
