What a fantastic group of brilliant performers! Later, we will show you some of their videoed performances for your reference. We certainly hope that their work inspire more of our boys to take part in many more speech contests to train up their confidence, presentation skills as well as artistic sense!

In this Speech Festival, we also have 30 second places and 24 third places! Clearly, our boys have had so much fun and competence in practising and performing through the Video Submission Mode of the Festival. And we are glad to say that this is our best result among the recent four Speech Festivals!

Thank you for all of you boys joining the event and trying hard for it. And I thank our teachers for heavily involving in the training process for many students. “Speech and Drama”
has been an important subject of the English learning experience in YWPS. Keep up your great work and you know what? Our Speech Gala is around the corner...We will certainly see more inspiring speech acts very soon!

Meanwhile, may I invite all our Speech Festival awardees, present or past, to share with us some tips on how to do well in the Festival? Thanks to you all again!

Hello ! I am Aldon So. I think in order for you to do well, If we practice hard and try our best, don’t think about the things yet to come, or the awards you hope to get. What you need to do is to stand firm, concentrate on your performance, and enjoy the process ! If you believe you will do well on your performance, your instincts will lead you on, and I believe that you will do even better.

Hola! Mi Illamo es tony! Que Tal? Anyway, let's see...how to do well in the Festival? Tricky question...Well firstly, to be honest, I'm just one person, and I really can't represent all humanity to answer this question, but in my opnion, just practise, practise, and practise. But of course, don't practise blindly. You should always consult someone, be it your teacher, parents, or sibling, to give you advice. You then practise according to what they tell you, and if they declare your speech is perfect, don't just sit on the sofa and relax. Practise in front of the mirror, and you'll find out just how terrible your speech is. I'm not kidding. You should then practise to make the speech better, in your own way, until you think it is perfect. And when you start recording, or get on the stage, if you're not nervous, you're pronably not ready. At least this is how I practsie. Anyway, this competion is just not about the prize, it's just all about having fun, gaining experiece, so don't be that nervous.(I feel like I'm contradicting myself) Anyway, hope you do well in whatever competitions(hopefully speech gala) you will compete in soon, and well there's nothing much to say, is there?
Bye👽

So I got the champion of the speech festival this year. If you ask me how do I win this or what special techniques did I use. Well, I would say 50:50. Fifty percent is luck and 50 percent is how you understand this poem / topic and how you perform it well. Some teachers LOVE lots of movement but I would say movements are only for some highlighted words which we want to remind the audience. And for voice, if the same word or phrase appears again and again in the poem, you should change the emotion and your voice according to the content. Judges want candidates to tell him or her a story. So story telling skills are essential in this. Lastly, practice makes perfect. The main thing is still to practice again and again. Hope all of you will improve in your next speech competition! 😁😁😁

Hello! I am Kingsley Wong. Every time I participate in the Speech Festival, I will memorise the piece well and try to understand what the author is trying to express, to get well prepared before meeting with the teacher. Once you have understood the poem, you need to plunge into the author’s world in order to tell the story. You must trust your teacher, and listen to his (or her) suggestions to improve. So winning this champion is not my own success, the teacher who was wholeheartedly teaching me should get the most credits. The award is like a door, and the key to open it is understanding well and practising hard. No matter did you get the award or not, learning the skill which your teacher taught you during the practice is also a valuable experience. Try to do your best every time and it will come for you! Good luck everyone in your next competition!

Even though I enjoy performing recital speech on stage, presenting in front of an camera instead of a group of audience is another story. No other shortcuts I could share with you except practice, practice and more practice!

Also, I really appreciate our teacher, Mrs Paul, gives me an inspiring insight and in-depth explanation to the poem. The poem is about my favourite food and in fact a very simple daily food——bread. She also shows me an interesting way to present the poem and take it to the next level. It turned out the adjudicator admires my rhythm especially the intentional pause in between the words! Since then, I learn to look into the meaning of the poem and find the best timing to pause. It makes huge difference! I really enjoy reading poems.

Hi! I am Marcus Yang. This is the second year that I join the Speech Festival . Then I have the champion. I am so glad and surprise that I can have the champion. I want to say it is not easy. You need to practice hard. When you are recording the video or presenting the speech, you need to do the best. Also no matter do you have the prize, you just need to learn the skills. then you can have a better presentation next year. Hope all of you will good luck in your next competition.^3^

If you were to ask me how to succeed in this area of drama, I'd probably say start as soon as you can and work your way up the years as you're gaining experience along the way. Each year, you can only get better. Also, enjoy yourself. This may sound cheesy, but you can really only commit yourself if you enjoy the thing you are doing -- in this case, reading a poem. Don't view it as a chore, but instead a hobby or something enjoyable. At least, that works fine for me.
As a parting note, any newcomers reading this, good luck and have fun. I wish you all the best in the years ahead.

Hello! I’m Kaden Hsu. I’m thrilled to get the champion of the speech festival this year.

Let me share some tips to win this competitive competition. Firstly, you have to choose a poem that you like and fits your personal style. The judge will easily tell if you enjoy the poem or not. Secondly, make sure your pronunciation is clear. You should use different volumes and facial expressions to convey the poem.

More importantly, be confident and enjoy to perform! Try hard and don’t worry to much about the result. Having the opportunity to perform is already a rewarding experience, and winning the prize is a bonus.

Hi everyone, this is Jacob Poon from class 2D. It is my great pleasure to share my joys and experiences from the last Speech Festival. I got a champion lucky from a heap of competitors. There is no short cut to achieve success but walk through the path of practicing hardly. I was practicing a lot about the voice speed, accent and face expression in front of a mirror and my family. Also, I watched quite a lot of video clips from the social media and learning the presentation skill from the previous performers. As my dad always saying that “Nothing is take it for granted”, thus I believe how much practices that I did and how prefects of my speech can be performed.
Please come and join us for upcoming completion, and you will be one of us to share your experiences next time!!!

Hello, I am Louis To from 4A. How to do well in the Festival? Firstly, I studied the poem and had a good understanding. I tried to express what the author’s feeling and emotion in the poem.
Secondly, I repeated to practice and improve the detailed areas one by one until it became prefect.
Finally, enjoy the fun in your performance.

Hi everyone, I’m Arvon Law from 3B. This is the second time I won first place in Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. It is because I like public speaking very much. Let me tell you how I practice! When I start reading the poem, I start imagining that I am in the poem to make my expression more natural. Hope that my sharing is helpful, thank you.
