[15 Mar] With much delight, the English Department congratulate the following brilliant boys who have been awarded a place at the 74th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. Check out the full list of awardees below:
It certainly takes a lot of effort from our students, parents and teachers to accomplish this record-breaking feat (in terms of the numbers of First Places and top 3 prize-winners).

We thank all of you for trying so hard and congratulate the awarded boys once more for the remarkable results in this Speech Festival. Well done!

Dr Lee

While I was recording the video, the weather was hot and sunny. Due to the reason that there couldn't have any background noise, I could not turn on the air-conditioner or the fan. After recording for two hours, I was too hot that I could not stay focused anymore however I did not record a good video yet. My parents kept encouraging me to stay in for a little longer. I gave one more try and recorded a fine video. However, I knew that it wasn't the best.
When I received my emails and knew my results, I thanked my parents because I knew if I used the videos I recorded before could not help me win any prizes. In the end, I learnt that I should never give up easily.

Although I had signed up for four categories, I had never expected nor comprehended the fact that I had the ability to gain four flags in one go. When I received the results, I was utterly spellbound by what had happened.
When recording, I always tried to use my facial expressions and voice to my maximum capability. Dr Lee gave me kind comments to improve. He brought me all the way here and I owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude.
I offer you my opinions when honing on the results : I believe the way I took this time was to follow more closely to Dr Lee’s comments. I took my time and honed on that : not blinking so fast, taking a medium pace, frowning then talking loudly… getting more flags is not an easy feat to accomplish. Always take other people’s comments into account is my final opinion.

Lastly, I would like to thank Dr Lee once more for training me, I have gained so much from this. Not only flags, but an armful of experience and knowledge that you have given me. My mother also helped me a lot, she commented on the videos too and also kept quite a sturdy hand on the camera.
If you want to improve, just remember one more thing : determination. All it takes is one step at a time.

At first, it felt like very hard to read the poem, but I got out of my comfort zone and decided to give it a try, when I was practicing, I learned that I needed to give more feelings and express it with my face and actions, I met a lot of difficulties, but at the end, I never gave up and completed the task. Finally,I would like to thank Mr. Stephen for training so early with me, if it wasn’t him, I wouldn’t get any prizes or taking any photos.

When Dr Lee told us about this competition, I was only a little bit interested. My mum still encouraged me to join because this was my last chance in primary school.
When I received my results, I was so excited and shocked because I never thought of winning! It was the first time getting a flag and this is absolutely memorable.
Lastly, I want to thank my mum for encouraging me to attend the competition and helping me take videos, Dr Lee for training me and giving me useful comments to help me give out a fantastic video. If they didn't help me, I would receive nothing.

I was very happy when I was told that I got first place in the speech festival because I have never gotten first place before. I think the best way to get a good grade when performing is to project your voice and to always be confident. I am very grateful to Mrs Paul for honing my skills and teaching me new skills along the way.
I would like to thank my mom and Mrs Paul for teaching me and encouraging me through the whole process of practicing for the speech festival because they gave me a lot of support and care. I probably wouldn’t have gotten this grade without them.
Lastly,I hope to all the new contestants of the speech festival will think that it is fun and interesting.

I was absolutely delighted when I received first prize in the speech festival since it was the first time I was champion. It wasn’t a piece of cake, especially when there were a great number of opponents. When I was recording, I was nervous, really nervous. The poem wasn’t easy to recite, yet I tried my best to accomplish my task and so meant staying out of my comfort zone. So I followed the advices from Mr. Philip: I used my facial expressions more and spoke in a medium pace. I also found out it was essential not to blink my eyes, as it would look a bit silly to me, and would affect the results. Lastly, I would also like to thank Mr. Philip from encouraging and mentoring me to try my best, as it turned out to be extremely successful. So for the new contestants of the speech festival, I wish you all good luck and find it to be fascinating.

I was very happy when I got my result. At first, I was so nervous, but finally ,I found it was fun to take the rickety train along the trickety track in the journey.
I would like to thank my mum, Miss Jackie and Mr.Lau for teaching me.

I personally think that this was the most memorable experience of speech festival as I can’t imagine that I would have won this competition. When I first started training for the speech, it felt so hard as I didn’t know how to pronounce the words and my feelings. I am also terrible at memorising the whole speech fluently. Thanks to Mr. Philip’s guidance, I improved overall on the speech and after some training. Eventually, I won the competition! I would like to thank my mother and Mr. Philip as they gave me a lot of support and encouragement.
For the future competitors, I would like to give you some tips. Firstly, be brave and believe in yourselves. Secondly, speak louder. Last but not least, try to express yourselves more dramatically.

I was sooooo excited to win in the speech festival again this year. English is always not an easy task to me, so I put much effort on practising the poem. With full of support and professional advices from Mr. Ching, I learned how to improve my pronunciation and use different facial expressions to show my feelings in the poem. Thanks a million to Mr. Ching who gives me a pair of MAGIC SHOES to the successful path. Also, thanks to my mum who always encourages me to try new things. Remember, impossible is nothing. Keep trying!
