[13 Apr] Big CONGRATULATIONS to our Drama Team who performed brilliantly for the Drama Festival 2021/22. The Festival was held in the form of an online Reader's Theatre. Our Drama Team had been trained for months for the play "The Frog Prince Continued" and had their live online performance for adjudication on 11 March. And we received the results from the Hong Kong School Drama Festival yesterday. We are thrilled to be awarded as follows:

Award for Outstanding Script -- Mrs Abanty Paul
Award for Outstanding Director -- Mrs Abanty Paul, Ms Peggy Yau, Ms Jackie Cheng, Ms Kei Yip
Award for Outstanding Performer — Yuen Hei Wang Roderick (5A); Lo Kai Tik Anson (6A); Lincoln Du Powell (4E); Choy Tung Lam (6C); Yeung Ching Long Caspian (4B)
Award for Outstanding Audio-visual Effects -- Ying Wa Primary School
Award for Outstanding Cooperation -- Ying Wa Primary School
Adjudicators' Award  -- Ying Wa Primary School

This is our second time winning as many as six awards in the Drama Festival and it is also our second time getting the highest prize, "Adjudicators' Award"! (Refer to our previous Drama Festival achievements here.) In the pre-pandemic days, we would have been invited to perform our play for public as an Adjudicators' Award winner. Now, understandably, this arrangement cannot be made, but we are delighted and excited all the same for our achievements!

Thank you to our drama teachers and drama boys for their hard work to achieve this beautiful feat. We look forward to showing all of you our recorded drama later in our Drama Fiesta 2022! Stay tuned!

If there's a will, there's a way. No challenge is difficult to overcome, once you set your mind on it.
Boys, with your flawless and scintillating performance in the Hong Kong School DramaFestival, you proved the saying to be so apt and true all over again. I'm so very proud of all of you. You're all stars in your own right. You added yet another feather to your and Ying Wa's cap. A treasure trove of accolades and beautiful memories to cherish forever.
A very special and heartfelt thanks to all the parents who have always given us their support, help and encouragement. Without them, the show wouldn't have been so well executed and successful. We, the team, are extremely grateful to each and every one of you.
In conclusion, all's well that ends well. Cheers to our Drama team. Until next time...goodbye and take care.

Lo and behold, here we are now, standing before another act of drama. It seems only yesterday that last year's act was carried out. Time flies, huh?
I've got to say, this year was really fun! Posing as a female was a fresh and interesting challenge that was also quite tough. Still quite fun, though.
Very big thanks to all of the teachers and parents who helped us in this. This would've been impossible without your help and support. You are the ones who made it doable.
All in all, another photo of hard work and fond memories added to the archives. With luck, see you on the stage next year.

I've quite enjoyed this show, and being a 1st timer acting in a drama festival, I think I did pretty well.
Acting is hard, and doing cross-gender acting is even more challenging. I would like to thank Mrs Abanty Paul, Ms Peggy Yau, Ms Jackie Cheng, Ms Kei Yip and my parents for spending their time and energy helping me prepare for the show.
I hope I can relive this exiting experience next year!

Ho ho ho. It's not Santa, but it's me, Tony Choy. The first time I performed drama for our school was when I was P.1, and now I'm P.6. Time sure flies. And in addition, this is the first drama competition that I ever performed in, and well, look at our results. But of course, without Mrs Paul, Ms Jackie, Ms Peggy Yau and Ms Yip, none of this would have ever happened. I'd like to thank them for making this so successful. And also, our drama teammates. Without them, well, we wouldn't really be able to perform, right? And lastly, my parents, who were standing right next to me during the competition, helping me get my makeup done, set up the green screen, and assisting me through glitches. Oh, and of course(how could I forget), Principal Chan, who was there at the last moment to support us. Thank you you all of making the last drama competition I will perform for this school so successful, and well, sometimes silence is the best language, so I won't say much more.
Thank you.

This year’s drama, a crossover fairy tale of “The Frog Prince”, was really fun and humorous and I savored the experience of acting it. I found myself snickering when I first saw the script. It was also special because there were a whopping 5 female roles, but we were all boys! You should’ve seen the face of the adjudicator when he realized we were all boys! The make-up was so convincing I would have been tricked if I wasn’t already in the know… haha. Our “princess” was absolutely gorgeous.

I’m honored to be a part of the spectacular performances the Drama Team put on for the last 2 years. Acting reader’s theater through Zoom is definitely a challenge, but we braved the challenges to put on a great show.

This is the culmination of a team effort and I’d like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to my fellow actors, who all played their part well and we all fused together to create a brilliant and memorable show. Also, we would not have achieved this standard without the help of our teachers, who helped us improve our tones, emotions and take our performances to another level. They also prepared costumes and green screens for us on time during the pandemic when it was enormously inconvenient. It is those details that elevated our show. I learnt that every small part counts, whether it’s the tone you say your lines, or color of the lipstick, or the virtual background. It’s like a puzzle – without one piece, it isn’t complete. Kudos to everyone!

All in all, we put on a superb performance together this year! I will definitely remember this year’s show with a smile on my face, same as last year. Same as last year, I look forward to performing on stage as part of the Drama team next year.

This is a really special experience for me. It's not an easy for me to act as a cross-gender character, but it’s also a really interesting and fun experience.
Thank you to all of our teachers and parents who lead us to multiple awards!
Hope we can have more chances to act in a drama in my future college life!

I think what made this experience so unforgettable was that it was done on Zoom. I have done a lot of plays, but none of them was done on Zoom. Furthermore, I had some great teammates. We wouldn’t be able to run this play if one of them was missing, same for the teachers. This play wouldn’t be half as great if one of them couldn’t teach us. Now, I don’t think of my teammates as…just teammates, but friends.
To conclude my feelings, I would use an old saying our teachers have been telling us…” There is no I in Team.”

Heartfelt congratulations to all of you, my dearest Drama Team boys! Your dedication, discipline and grit made a mark finally. I'm so proud of you. Your devoted attitude, maturity and creative ideas surprised me a lot. It is my great pleasure to be a part of the team and witness your growth. I'm really touched by your stunning performance. I would like to give a big shout-out to all the supportive parents. Without you, this wouldn't be possible. Boys, this victory is one feather in the hat and I'm sure there are more to come. I wish you will keep your burning interest in drama. You are all stars!

I’m thankful for the teachers, Mrs. Paul, Ms. Yau, Ms. Jacky, Ms. Yip and Ms. Ho, for making comments from our rehearsals on how to improve our performance. Not only that, the teachers prepared the props, enrolling for the competition and fixing technical issues that occurred in the online meeting platform. Without them, there wouldn’t be this spectacular, wonderful drama team. Not to mention, this year’s pandemic is especially severe, so the Hong Kong School Drama Festival is changed from face-to-face to online. As Principal Chan said, "The secret of CHANGE is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new." This is my first time participating in a play, and at the same time, the format of the performance has changed to online. Although there was a great challenge ahead, I decided to overcome it. I was rather shy before the drama team training, but after weeks of trip-overs and “try-agains”, I mentally became confident. Failure is surely the way to success.

Not only the teachers, due to the change of the performance format, our parents help us too. Backstage, they drew eyeshadows and eyebrows, put on lipstick, and did other make-ups for us. Without the makeup and our parents’ help, the show would’ve not been better.

One thing special about this play is that five out of eight of us are female in it! The adjudicators didn’t recognise us till Mrs. Paul said to them that we are all boys! After that, we removed all our accessories and the adjudicators were shocked with their mouths opened. It seems like our voice is feminine, trained by our teachers. This is also seen as a great challenge for us. Our characteristics, actions and voice lines need to be changed during the play. For example, the witches’ sounds (including me) are hoarse. I really enjoyed pretending and playing with our schoolmates and teachers.

Last but not least, thanks to Principal Chan for cheering us on and telling us important quotes.

Thank you.

Wow. We did it! That was amazing! Six Outstanding Awards, together with the “Adjudicators’ Award”! What a stunning performance! This is such great news!

This year, it was my second time participating in the Reader’s Theatre in the HK School Drama Festival. Last time, I was a narrator. This time, I got to experience playing a main character, the Prince! Being a prince was… well…very interesting to me. I got to speak in first person, not like the narrator. More than that, I had a cosplay costume, like a crown, a staff, and some typical prince clothes (they made me look like a First Naval Officer or someone else similar).

I found this year’s drama really enjoyable. Even though we couldn’t perform on stage, I still had a wonderful time acting like a Prince. Technically, playing the role of a prince was not very hard, but it was difficult to be good. Wonder how? Act politely with gentle gesture, and talk in a pleasant and royal tone and manner!

Herewith, I would like to express my special thanks to all the teachers, particularly Mrs Paul. Your efforts and patience with us meant a lot to our team. Thanks to my fellow teammates, too. I just had a great time. It was truly a memorable moment that I would never forget. Thank you, everyone, and I hope I will be able to participate in a drama play again! Goodbye!
