[4 May] Today, 6 of our P.5 Debate Club members (5B Leonardo Lo, 5C Cyrus Ngan, 5C Jayden Chow, 5E Nick Wong, 5E Jayden Leung, and 5E Luke Wong) had their very first debating attempt. They participated in the Speed-debating Competition and earned the champion by winning three debates in a row!

The Speed-debating Competition is organized by HKPTU Primary Debating Committee. There were 4 rounds of debates with the motion: That Hong Kong is a good place to have a pet dog. Our boys competed with Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section), St. Francis of Assisi's English Primary School, Mrs Cheng Yam On School and Pui Ching Primary School.

It was an enthralling experience for our P.5 debaters as their sole aim today was to gain debating experience, and winning was the icing on the cake.

The whole debate experience is much more than just the actual debate itself. There are whole lot of preparations as well as collaborations between team members beforehand. Our boys had put in tremendous effort for the debate today. Their confidence comes from their dedication.

In the end, we, along with Kwun Tong Government Primary School (Sau Ming Road), recorded the best win-loss ratio among the 8 competing schools and were both crowned champions!

Congratulations, boys. I am proud of you all.

Miss Vera Fung
Debating Coach

This was our first time to have an official debate competition. I enjoyed it very much and it was definitely a wonderful experience for us to have a good start in future debates. We did the script writing, research and rebuttals by ourselves so we feel a sense of sucess and great satisfaction. Out of four debates, we won three!☺☺☺ To have such good results,we would like to specially thank our debating coach, Miss Fung for her teaching and help.🙏🙏🙏

Thank you to Ms. Fung for letting us have this memorable experience! This valuable experience will definitely help us with formal debates in the future. We researched and wrote the script ourselves under the guidance of Ms. Fung. After winning three out of four matches, I feel that our many hours worth of research has not gone to waste. Thank you to Ms. Fung again for our wonderful results!

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Miss Fung for giving me this opportunity to participate in this speed-debating competition. I enjoyed the learning experience in doing research, writing the scripts, making up our points and improvising the speech. It was so exciting that we need to overcome our fear to speak in public and write the rebuttal during the debate to devalue our opponent's arguments and point out their weaknesses and mistakes. I could have done nothing without Miss Fung's amazing guidance! Thank you Miss Fung!

Although I was extremely nervous, I feel that this debate has been a great experience and a kickstarter for the debates coming. Of course, I would like to thank Miss Fung for giving us this spectacular opportunity and sticking with us for all the long hours we spent researching and training. I definitely learned to always write my scripts shorter next time and have better time management. I actually wasn’t expecting to win, I just wanted to gain some real life debating experience. Winning was definitely the chocolate sauce on the ice cream!🍦🍦🍫🍫

My role was the second speaker from the affirmative team. I was thrilled to have won my very first debate competition, and I look forward to competing in more debates! Although I lost one of the rounds, I wasn't too disappointed considering that we were merely beginners on debating and had a lot to learn. I will learn from my previous mistakes and will improve in the future!

Special thanks to Miss Fung, our debating coach, for coaching and supporting us for the whole time! Without her, we would never have been crowned champion in the speed debating competition!
