Led by the Vice-Principal Ms Nathalie Chen of Henry Park Primary School (Singapore), 30 excited P.5 students travelled all the way from Singapore to Ying Wa Primary School for a half-day school experience on 13 Nov.

After a campus tour guided by our student ambassadors, they had a global issue discussion in the English Room, a coding lesson in the STEAM Lab as well as an amazing dodgeball contest at the playground. All our accompanying students and visitors interacted well despite of the short time together.

Ms Chen first visited YWPS 5 years ago as a Science Subject Head together with other Head of Departments from various Singapore schools. She was moved by the vibrancy of our school and therefore decided to bring students and staff to us when she became a Vice-Principal. We thanked them dearly for their kind visit and bringing us such a good exchange. Early next year some of our P.5-6 students will have a study tour in Singapore, perhaps we may meet again soon!

I was one of the students who participated in this activity. The students from Singapore are very kind-hearted and friendly and I really appreciated this opputunity to meet them . The most importantly , I had a chance to hear the propper 'Singlish' that the students offer , it made me had an feeling of blending into the society of Singapore. If I am able to apply the Singapore Study Tour , I would hope to visit this school . I think that the school should organize these activities more frequently , what do you think .

I was one of the students who participated this activity. I thought this lesson with the students from Singapore was very enjoyable. It wasn't only because of the content of the lesson, but because the students were very friendly. They really liked to interact with us which was quite special to me as we don't usually interact and discuss together in class. Again, I really enjoyed this lesson with the Singapore students. I wish we could have this type of lessons as well ! ; )

Dear Mrs Lam, Teachers and Students of Ying Wa Primary School,

Thank you for welcoming all of us to your school. Our students had a fruitful and enjoyable time interacting with the students from Ying Wa Primary School.

I was particularly impressed with the school ambassador, Keith, who guided me in the school tour. He was polite, confident and friendly. The ambassador program really brings out the potential in these young boys!

Hope to meet all of you again!

I am very honoured to be chosen as one of the students to welcome our friendly visitors. I've gained a lot of knowledge and it must be useful when I grow up. During the unforgettable discussion time, I learnt some new words from the Singapore students such as hermitage and culture. After meeting these friendly students from Singapore, I sincerely hope that I can be chosen to join the Singapore Study Tour to visit more schools and make new friends. I think I can learn more about them in the tour.

I was thrilled when I heard I was chosen to take a lesson with our friendly visitors. When I came into the English room dozens of smiley faces looked at me.I was very excited and quickly took a seat and started to communicate with them. They've talked about their culture and we talked about the difference of population between Hong Kong and Singapore. Then, all of us had two discussions between school exams and our mother tongue.Through this unforgettable experience of taking a lesson with such friendly visitors,I've gained a lot of knowledge of Singapore culture.I hopefully wish to be chosen to the Singapore Study Tour to know more about their culture, visit more different schools and to make friends with different kind of people.

As a participant in this lessons, it is my honor to be chosen to join this lesson. At first, I was a bit shy facing these strangers, but the friendly Singaporeans broke the ice between us. During the lesson, the Singapore students and our Ying Wa students discussed about exams and mother tongue issues. This improved our friendship. Other than that, by chatting with each other, I learnt about their culture and their living habit. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience as we seldom talk or chat with Singaporeans during trips to their own country. Hope that I can be chosen to join the Singapore tour and learn more about their country's hermitage and history! :)

I actually volunteered myself to welcome the students. When I met the Singaporeans, I knew I made the right choice. My favourite subject is English, so I was not at all avoiding conversation. One of the girls sitting on my left greeted me as soon as I sat down, which made me very warm, except for the fact that it was actually quite cold in the English room. The Singaporeans were really enthusiastic and wrote a lot when the topic came out. I enjoyed the whole lesson thoroughly and didn't care about losing my recess time.

Hi All,

I had the chance to conduct a sharing with twenty of our YWPS P6 boys and the thirty students from Henry Park P.S (and their seven teachers/VP).
We had a lively and interesting discussion focusing on some differences and similarities between the Hong Kong and SIngapore education systems.

We also had a "WORLD CURRENT EVENTS" quiz.
Very engaging.

I really enjoyed preparing and holding this discussion.
I also appreciated the willingness of our P6 boys to interact with students from Singapore.

Very rewarding experience for all.

Ying Wa Primary School welcomed us warmly, telling us stories about its history and I was amazed that the school is 200 years old! My buddy was confident and I learnt a lot from him. He showed me around the school, such a beautiful place! My favourite place is the school library. Thank u Ying Wa Primary for hosting us!

One of the highlights of my trip to Hong Kong was the visit to Ying Wa Primary School. Interacting with the pupils of the school, I was introduced to the difference in the curriculum and education system between our two countries. It was an eye-opener.
I enjoyed the Current Affairs discussion and was really impressed at how confident YWPS students are. It was a learning point for me! I enjoyed the experience very much. Thank you!

I learnt a lot from my trip to Ying Wa Primary School. Mainly, the YWPS boys inspired me not to be afraid of failures and setbacks but to embrace and learn from them instead. For that, I have told myself that I must give my best in everything that I do, even the the small things in life like homework and my CCA. They were also very confident and could communicate and present their ideas effectively. It was a really pleasant experience, thank you Ying Wa!

On my visit to Ying Wa Primary, I learnt that 'Robotics' is a lesson in their curriculum and that they have Physical Education lesson EVERY DAY! I think that is really amazing. Hope to have these in Henry Park too!
We had fun playing Dodgeball with YWPS students. Thank you for having us!

I will always remember my visit to Ying Wa Primary because of your very friendly principal, 'Snoopy principal'. We were all amazed at how fast she could draw the Snoopy character. 5 seconds!
During the robotics lesson, I learnt to programme a robot and was introduced to the different parts and how they work.
We also played Dodgeball Ying Wa style and we all had a lot of fun!
I would definitely visit YWPS again if given the chance!

A big thank you to YWPS for hosting us. I visited YWPS in 2013 as a Head of Department with a group of HODs from Singapore. It was part of my leadership course to learn more about the education system in Hong Kong. I was deeply inspired by Mrs Lam's dynamic leadership and creative direction for curriculum & learning then and still am today. I was thrilled for our HPPS students to interact with YWPS students.

Well done to the boys for being confident and articulate communicators. Their strong sense of school pride was very much tangible in the way they led us through the school tour. What was memorable for me was watching the students enjoying a game of dodgeball. It was interesting to see how our students adapted to learn the game through observation and experience before proper instructions were given by the teacher. That to me is rich learning – when one is allowed to improvise by applying their prior knowledge of the sports and observation skills. There’s no right or wrong but perhaps the most strategic way to win the game 
The discussion our students had with YWPS students triggered lots of interesting ideas and exchange of opinion on what’s close to their hearts- the importance of assessment & learning of Mother Tongue Language. The opportunity gave rise to student empowerment as they shared openly their views on assessment from various perspectives and their beliefs and conviction on the importance of Mother Tongue language in preserving cultural identity. It is heartening to witness this rich exchange of ideas amongst the students. Thank you Mr Richard and Dr Lee for planning this for us. Do visit HPPS when you guys have a chance and all the best for the year :)
