I am honored to be selected as a member of the school English debate team. There have been ups and downs this year, and I have a lot that I would like to share.
First of all, I would like to thank Mr Ching for leading us throughout our four competitions, as he taught us from scratch on how to brainstorm, guided us on our scripts, and worked on our debating manners and styles. Secondly, I would like to thank all the parents for their zealous support in helping us, like booking the conference room in the clubhouse, driving us and buying us meals. Last but not least, I would like to thank all my teammates for cooperating with me and helping me out, and not getting mad at me when I made the whole team lose by speaking overtime-_-
In addition, I have learnt a lot of valuable lessons in this debate such as listening and cooperating with others, and my critical thinking skills have also significantly improved.
To conclude, I have had a wonderful experience in debating, and of course, this wouldn’t be possible without teachers, parents and my teammates' efforts. Thank you for giving me such a fond memory in YWPS!

After the heated debate that we had long prepared for, I could finally take a deep breath, and was relieved as the two long weeks for the preparation of this debate was meaningful. Thanks to the effort from my team 1, we won the grand final debate match and got the first place. I knew that I did not perform my best during the match but given our great team effort, we’ve won. Now, I am very excited and overwhelmed by this absolute wonderful sight and the best of all, is that we can finally take a well-needed and deserved break. Thank you Mr. Ching for coaching us throughout the year and leading us to victories. Thank you again to the members from the two debating teams for brainstorm ideas, meetings, and discussions together. I really enjoy debating and look forward in doing it in the future.

I have to say that this school year is the most memorable one out of the six.
Not because I’m graduating, but simply because I've got an excellent chance to
represent my school for debating competitions and improve all sorts of language
skills and teamwork. Let me kind of explain what we have gone through this year.
In the audition, I did my very best to work on my script. I also seeked help
from my parents and my English tutor. I had to present my speech about whether
e-sports should be added to the olympics. Fortunately, me and my friend Anthony
succeeded in getting on the debating team.
The first topic is the same as the audition. I was still a newbie at that time, so I
became a reserve. I tried to help them write and edit their script while they did most
of the research. Although I didn’t participate much, I had a general idea about what
debating was like.
The second debate was about whether smokers should be allowed public
healthcare, and we denied it. This was also my first chance to debate, and it was the
first speaker. I worked as hard as I could and edited my script for lots of time until it
was perfect. However, my teammate Anthony went to overtime and cost us a hefty
six points, which caused us to lose. We were really annoyed, but we still didn't blame
Anthony as we didn’t want to hurt his feelings.
In the third debate, I didn't do as well as the last time. Somehow I didn’t pay
that much effort and just tried to merely catch up with the deadlines. We weren’t
really cooperating well as well. Therefore, Mr ching wasn’t satisfied with us, although
we won.
In the finals, I was reserve,so i didn’t really do much, but I was chairperson,
and was able to try and host the debate. At last, we won. I am so proud of the team,
and i appreciate all the hard work we have done. Most importantly, we learned quite
a lot of qualities during the process. Debating is really fun and I hope everyone
would like it. Thank you everyone for helping me out in the team.

It is my first time participating in a debate competition. At first, I hesitated to attend the audition of the debate team, but I picked up my courage and attended it. I was over the moon when I saw my name on the list of successful applicants. Thank you Mr Ching for giving me the chance to join the debate team. During the bumpy but meaningful debating journey, I’ve gained confidence and developed my debating skills. Our preparation work was not as easy as I thought. We had to do a lot of research and write a gigantic number of scripts. With the help of Mr Ching and my teammates, we always got it through at last. All of the hard work paid off after we won the competition. I was thrilled when we won the Grand Final. I would like to thank Mr Ching for guiding our team through the whole year. I hope I can participate in debate competitions in the future.
