P.6 Singapore Study Tour 2018: Day 2

Actors and actresses at Ms Mary Ann Tear's workshop
Ms Mary Ann Tear's drama workshop is a great highlight of the day (and the tour) undoubtedly with a creative writing session to enrich our boys' experience. I remember YWPS's staff development at Singapore years ago with Mary Ann training our English team. Today's experience was just as thrilling, if not even more so. What's more delightful was that our boys' English and expressivity standards were highly praised.

And the surprise of the day comes from the National Museum of Singapore where a vending machine was found selling "Mystery Books", books that are wrapped to hide their name and content. Knowing that the publisher was a local independent press selling quality literary works, I bought one followed by Miss Candy Ho's purchase. The fun thing was, we were surrounded by a dozen boys taking pictures and videos of the process, making us look like some sort of celebrities from Hong Kong!

I do hope more people in Hong Kong value English reading and performing arts. Today's exposure and experience for us, boys and teachers, were more than amazing!

Really heartfully thanks to Dr Lee for all the nice photos to our group parents. You can see how enjoy our boys do from all their cheerful faces on the photos. Waiting for the updates and photos is my daily wish during these few days, hehe.

The visit to MS Works was fantastic ! We had drama lessons and creative writing there. We actually made a postcard by ourselves and we can even get those postcards later on, they would be mailed back to us !
The national museum was very big and there were a lot of exhibits there. It showed some histories of the old Singapore, I learnt a lot there. The most memorable thing to me was the Mystery Book vending machine. I think some of the books are the same although they had different wrapping papers, but it was actually fun to uncover the mystery that what the book was.
All in all, we had a lot of fun this day.

This was certainly a very interesting experience for us, because we had a actress to teach us how to act, also the Singapore national museum was very fun, if you are wondering about the mystery books almost every book comes out the same but it is very fun, not to expensive it shows how much Singaporeans love reading, so we living in Hong Kong should elevate our reading skills too.

Dear Dr.Lee:
I learnt a lot of drama skills such as mixed emotions after Miss Mary Ann Tear's fantastic drama workshop. We played a list of games to improve our drama skills. The most memorable part was certainly the three picture drama part!

The instructions of this game was simple but hard.We had to make a
story using three frozen pictures. It was very challenging that my group did not perform well when we were practising, after Miss Mary's help,we could finally perform a funny and interesting hotel scene story.

We went to Singapore National Museum after a delicious nanya meal.Actually,I did not think this visit will be interesting as I do not like history!Luckily, there were a lot of places with a big screen in the museum. So that we could learn Singapore's history by watching films instead of reading and reading!

It was a experience that I've never tried. As you have said"MORE THAN AMAZING!"

Oh my god! The inventor of the Mystery Books vending machine is so creative. He/She is a genius! You know what? I really want to buy a mystery book. I hope there will be some Mystery Books vending machine in Hong Kong. Like this, maybe more Hong Kong people will read English books, and that will be a good. I think that there are not a lot of children who loves to read English books in Hong Kong. It is because they all focus on video-games and other electronic products. They don't care about books. I really hope that people will focus on books and not video-games. You can learn things from books, but video-games can't teach you anything!

I like the drama class as Ms Mary Ann taught us a lot of drama skills such as facial expression and we acted it out. Also, I found out that the mystery book machine in the National Museum is so interesting,I enjoyed the exciting moment of opening the well-packed book.

The MS Workshop was very fun! We did all sorts of drama exercises to train our drama techniques ! I learnt a lot! I wanted to buy the book but Dr Lee told me the books are for adults, as it doesn't have any action or horror, so we would just find it boring, so I didn't buy one

It is a wonderful and valuable experience, isn't it?
I am attracted by the vending machine, though. Which book did Dr. Lee get? And any schoolmates bought it too?
This machine is rarely seen in Hong Kong, and I think it has a shortcoming. If someone don't like the book he or she has bought, he or she would probably throw the book away and make wastes.
However,I think that we should introduce the machine into Hong Kong—Not to sell books, but to lend books.
