"Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps" - record breaking in progress...
PictureTom and his father with Headmistress Mrs Lam
On the 24th of June, thousands of Ying Wa students, old-boys and parents joined together to break the Guinness world record, "largest gathering of people wearing swim caps". I was one of the participants on this very hot day. About 2500 sweaty boys and girls stood still on the basketball courts and put on their swim caps, seeing the jaw dropping sight and smelling the smell of men was definitely a phenomenal experience!

Thinking back now, the love of students to their mother-school was clearly seen as I heard old-boys chat about their time studying in Ying Wa, they still remember the nicknames they called each other back then! This event was a perfect celebration for the completion our swimming pool, as it made the Ying Wa family come together and complete a challenge. I could feel the bonding between the participants when the drone flew down and cooled us down, we all cried 'ahhhh' as we felt the breeze on our faces. This event is definitely a huge milestone in the history of Ying Wa!

That same old metal gate...
(For Guinness World Record day at Ying Wa, 24 June 2017)

I saw familiar faces, welcoming me as if family, friendly and radiant...
I was back home at last.
I was back with my old friends, back with my brothers, that sense of belonging seized all the nerve and anxiety I had at first.
Just standing there, memories of the past swarmed into my brain. The day when I first stepped foot into the lobby, it all seemed not long ago, as if it was just yesterday.
Today we were back together, our friendship bonds still glistening despite us being in different schools. Our truest smile reflected the everlasting friendship in our hearts. Although we have changed a lot throughout time, we remain united and harmonious in our souls.
Under the blazing heat, our faces glimmered with beads of trickling sweat, cheeks reddened and scorched from the punushing sun. However, our spirits stayed strong, to complete the Guiness World Record. In the glorious singing voices, I indeed found myself back home.
That same old metal gate, the beginning of my magical journey.

"3...2...1...hooray!" The roar from the crowd was deafening when countdown ended, as everyone knew that Ying Wa had created a new Guinness World Record of the "largest gathering of people wearing swim caps" on 24 June 2017.

In the morning of that day, the school campus was swarmed by excited parents and students, and helpers who were trying their best to sort the people into groups. Each person was given a white swim cap which all of us had to put it on at the same time. At around ten o'clock, the different groups started to line up in the basketball court. Our group was among one of the first ones to arrive at the basketball court, so we had to stand under the scorching sun for a whole 40 minutes! The heat was unbearable and all of us became sweaty, but we were still in very high spirits and continued waiting.

Just before the event started, "Uncle Potato" Mr. John Tsang appeared at the balcony and waved hands to the crowd. Then, Mrs. Lam announced the start of the event and everyone wore their swim caps. It was quite an impressive sight, that the mass of black hair disappeared into the sea of white caps.

Meanwhile, Mrs Lam and Mr Cheng interviewed Mr. Tsang and the ten minutes passed quickly. There was a countdown and an official announcement that Ying Wa had broken the world record! Three cheers for Ying Wa!

Although the weather was really hot, it did not rain and there were occasional breezes. The participants were also very cooperative and everyone had a great time. I hope that there will be similar events in the near future!

Love these reflections...and certainly love the sense of reunion and being together for a good purpose. We're all melting under the heat, and also under the very touching spirit of Ying Wa. The event was definitely more than record-breaking. We made a difference. Salute to all the participants!

That was an epic day! 2500 or more people were standing on our basketball court that day. I especially remembered when all of us were waving our unique white swimming caps, that moment was remarkable.
To be part of this event to break the world record, I, as a P.6 student, is so delighted to help out. This is definitely a super rare chance to all of our students and I am sure that they all loved that Saturday with all the people.
I am thankful that God blessed us and gave us a nice day for this event. The time that we were breaking the record, it was just a absolutely sunny day, but after we finished, rain came along once again and showered the whole place. If God wasn't with us, we'll surely never enjoy such a warm day out there!
This event totally linked all of us together with the Ying Wa spirit, I think this spirit is the spirit that everyone should have, to participate and to love your own school! This is definitely a great major event for all of us!

I completely saw God's blessing in this event. It was raining on the days before this humungous activity but what bright sunshine there was on that day. The sun baked us on those ten minutes and after the activity it rained again! How amazing God's blessing was!

This event was spectacular for me and it shows the power of our Ying Wa family. The world record had been broken and the smile on Mrs Lam's face was just unforgettable! The strength of the Ying Wa family is unbeatable!

"Once a Ying Wa boy, always a Ying Wa boy."
It's been almost three years since I graduated from YWPS; It's been almost three years since I stepped out of this landmark of Sham Shui Po, however my sense of belonging to my alma mater has never changed.
It's my honour to return to the campus last Saturday to participate in the Guinness World Record event. It was phenomenal, spectecular. I was really impressed by how strong the "Ying Wa Brotherhood" was. Different generations of Ying Wa Boys gathered together to achieve this milestone. Frankly speaking, tenacity was crucial for everyone to withstand the heat brought by the golden globe in the sky, but at last the standing of 2584 people overcame and broke the record.
May all Ying Wa boys put on a big grin when reminiscing about this event in the future!

It was a great day to all of the Ying Wa boys, more than 2500 people wearing the same swimming cap at the same time and same place. I would like to thanks God for the blessing to all of us, the weather was good during the activity. It was nice to break the record with my friends, I love this kind of activities.

"Beep!" blared the air horn as the guest of honour signalled that we had broken the world record of "Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps". As confetti rained down from the air and hollering sounds drifted around, I thought, "We did it! We broke the world record!"

It was a beautiful day with the sun shining brightly on the basketball courts and the school campus was filled with students, parents and relatives. When I arrived at the balcony, I saw my old friends in the past years. I was given a white swim cap which was a bit to small and sat down with them. We laughed, joked and a great time on the Hall balcony. Our group, luckily, went last and we did not get burnt to a crisp by the blazing sun. When I arrived at the basketball court, I saw Mrs. Lam, Mr. John Tsang and a lot of important people facing us.

After a few moments, Mrs. Lam started off with a prayer and I remembered the morning assemblies when she led the prayer every week. A huge "BEEP" sounded out after the prayer and i hastily pulled my swim cap onto my head. It was boiling in the swim cap and every time the drone flew above me, I savoured the wind as it blew across my face before flying off again. Around ten minutes later, the air horn sounded again marking the end of the event, meaning that we had successfully broke the world record for "Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps"! After a short period of time, the sky darkened and droplets of water started falling from the sky just after the event.

I am very thankful that God has stopped the rain during the breaking of the world record or it would have to be rescheduled. Moreover, I am very thankful for the experience as I have never attempted to break a world record before, in a group or by myself. I also cherish the time I spent with my old friends during this event and I thank everyone for making it possible. Three cheers for Ying Wa!
