Speech Gala - Who Says Boys Don't Shine in Speech?

I went speechless listening to the performances in Speech Gala's Grand Finals held today (15 Feb). I thank the boys, the teachers, the parents, our School Head, the adjudicator Ms Mary Ann Tear, our guests (particularly Ms Claire Leung) and the whole school to make this annual event possible.

I am unable to tell which performance touched me the most because they all touched me in different ways. But what impressed me was what our guests Mr and Mrs Ford (retired School Principals in England) said after the show: "We don't have anything like this back in England!"

Yes, we treasure English and value English as a practical form of arts, and that has long become the tradition and trend of the English curriculum of YWPS - and that makes all the difference in learning this language.

Check out our gallery...the Gala continues!

Our boys never cease to amaze me! All the contestants did so well in today's Speech Gala. Like what one of our P.1 finalists said, "We all did extremely well that it is hard to say who should win in the competition."

I am sure the boys have put a lot of hard work before and during the Chinese New Year holiday!

With tremendous courage, effort and passion in English, you did it, boys! Today at the school hall, I saw stars shining on the stage.

We would like to thank Ms. Kwok for giving Michael this great opportunity to participate in the Speech Gala and also to thank the teachers and staff in organizing this wonderful event. This is surely a valuable experience for Michael to participate and learn from the other contestants. As P1 parents, we are always keen to teach our child what to do (and of course without exception for this performance!) but we are very glad to discover during the process that Michael has given some thoughts to his performance and he has shared with us his own ideas on how to interpret and perform the verse. We think we have accomplished what we want to accomplish when we heard Michael ask us how he could improve.
Thank you everyone!

Kudos to all the participants of this year’s Speech Gala. As Ms. Kwok said-Ying Wa boys never cease to amaze us.
The competition being held right on the first day the school re-opened after the CNY holidays, had left us a little nervous and apprehensive as we hadn’t had the opportunity to practice with the participants in 10 days. But, putting all our worries and misgivings to rest, the boys left us enthralled with their performances. Their sheer confidence, energy and enthusiasm created magic on stage. Needless to say, Ms. Tear, our esteemed adjudicator was all in praise for our participants and their talent.
My heartiest congratulations to all of you. Your efforts and hard work contributed to the success of yet another glorifying year of our Speech Gala. Keep shining-always.

Saw a boy gently kissing his certificate as he was leaving the hall and the amazement shone in the eyes of the audience during the performance. Their response said everything about how wonderful this event was :)

"Let no one steal your dreams. Let no one tear apart. The burning of ambition that fires the drive inside your heart." (from one of the set pieces this year) Keep going boys!!

Just by looking at the photos, I could tell how excited the boys were! Speech Gala is not just a competition. It's a platform for our boys to share, enjoy and appreciate language art!

Ying Wa School always provides a wide range of extra- and co-curricular activities to all students and we are thankful that our kids had the opportunity to participate in this year's Speech Gala. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Mrs Paul. Without Mrs Paul's patience and enthusiasm, Andrzej would not have made it to his potential and performed at his best. This was such a valuable and memorable experience for him and us as parents.
Thank you and wish everyone of you a happy and prosperous year of the Monkey!

Externally, there is Speech Festival; internally, we have Speech Gala. Thanks Ying Wa English Department for offering such a meaningul platform for our kids to show their passion of language arts. Thanks Mr Tam for giving Calix a great opportunity to participate in the Duologue category. What a new & funful challenge to him and he enjoyed the performance a lot with his fellow partner, Ivan!
