A Sweet Ending for the Group Entries This Year at the Speech Festival - Improvised Dramatic Group Snatched THIRD Place
The English group entries of YWPS at the 67th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival ends sweetly and completely this afternoon as our newly formed 5-boy improvised drama team attempted to visit the den of tigers and lions at the festival - the category of Improvised Dramatic Scenes, which is often dominated by schools traditionally sending several teams there every year.

Doing it the first time, with very little hope yet aiming at gaining experience from the contest, our boys used the 10 minutes of preparation time to prepare a fun-filled scene of a restaurant with a new clumsy waiter. Their sense of humour, creativity and voice clarity touched the adjudicator. A well-deserved Third Place (scored 84) was granted to us among 14 brilliant teams.

Their coach Mrs Rebecca Ho reflects the experience as follows:

“What do you know about improvisation ?
It is all about fun !
It is fun to receive your topic from the adjudicator's hand. It is fun to race with time to figure out the plot of your drama. It is fun to act with lines that just come up in mind . They are the charisma of improvisation.
Come to have a taste yourself, you will love it!
”

To conclude on our group performance this year at the Speech Festival, we are proud to tell you that ALL FIVE teams we sent out were awarded!
Junior Choral Speaking:
Senior Choral Speaking:
Thematic Group Speaking (I'm a Hero):
Thematic Group Speaking (Emotions):

Improvised Dramatic Scenes:
FIRST (90)
SECOND (90)
FIRST (88)
THIRD (85)
THIRD (84)
This simply shows how much our boys and our teachers love English! Hurray!

Yes, they are amazing. And the most important of all, our boys enjoy performing on stage. It's a festival after all, isn't it?

I am one of the students of the Improvised Dramatic Group. I like and enjoy the activity very much. Through of the competition, I have learnt to be calm and quick brain storming during the 10 minutes preparation time. Through out the competition, there are laughs and smiles all around the hall. I think that this is not even a competition, but a party! I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want to stop! Here, I want to thank Dr. Lee and Mrs Ho for guiding us in training!

Having the chance to be a teammate in the Improvised Drama Team, I am really glad. In the whole ‘journey’, I could feel a strong team spirit connected us. No one in the team would fell abandon under the mutual trust. During series of training, I realized my defect and try to speak out more loudly with strengths. Finally, the day of the competition came. At first, I was a bit nervous but under Isaac Yan’s leading, I felt much more confident. (Thankyou Isaac:) Surprisingly, we got the third place though there are still many mistakes and inadequacy. After all, thankyou Dr.Lee and Mrs.Ho to train us, this is an unforgettable experience!

How nice of you Aidan to have mentioned me though I wasn't involved in your training! Ha! It was Mrs Ho who did the inspirations and magic! Anyway, it was such an eye-widening experience for you and for us! Thank you for trying your best!

What a special event for my life! As Dr.Lee said, if we play drama, we can actually prevent accidents because we have act it before! This activity trains creativity and response. What a good lesson for us!

Ha! Accidents can't always be prevented but improvisation training does help us face unpredictable things in life! Keep practising Lachlan!
