[3 Jan] It is the first happy news from the English Department in 2023 that my article on our "To Be Continued" journey last school year is accepted and published by a UK-based Magazine "Word Matters" under the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama.

The article reports the school theme of school year 2021-2022 - "To Be Continued" and the related activities held by the English Department. Many QR codes are included to allow readers to experience students' creative work and our exciting video productions.

You may read the full article here and re-experience our learning journey, as well as the journey of our three young heroes in Forgottenland!

Happy reading and happy 2023!

The flashes of the moments I spent in Ying Wa are still vivid till now. Although graduated, I yet recall the majestic scenes of how I stood on the stage, beaming at the cameras, after winning the Reading Championship when I was P.6. I genuinely thank Dr Lee for organising such a delightful event and giving us endless opportunities to express our never-ending enthusiasm towards reading. This really meliorates our presentation techniques and nourishes our vigorous passion in the creative literary world.

It is with great pleasure to read this article published by Dr LEE this year. Never have my naïve self from two years ago thought that there would be such an intriguing recapitulation about ‘To be Continued’. To enthusiastic yet creative YW boys, a diverse learning experience is of the utmost importance to hook their interests of learning. The ‘To Be Continued’ series, in the form of a story encapsulating 8 chapters, acts as a motivation in students’ course of learning, as it includes a cliffhanger every chapter that leaves readers hungry for more. This ensures sufficient motivation towards learning for students and enhances their imagination towards the story’s ending, thus training them to have a critical-thinking mindset and a prominent story-telling skill that is efficient for later daily life.

It is a great thing that the English Department has organized 4 activities for the ‘TBC’ series. In my opinion, it elevates their presentation and speaking fluency while aggrandizing their summarization techniques. As students are highly incentivized to leave comments and questions about the ‘TBC’ story chapters, this fosters the mindset of ‘critical thinking’ in their creative worlds; Having video sharing with the hosts of ‘Forgottenland’ initiating discussions impels students to leave responses and feedbacks to the department website, improving their writing techniques; last but not least, having reading championships can improve the students’ speaking fluency and summarization technique as it takes the form of verbal presentation. All in all, the campaigns organized by the English Department are just the vessels that you can equip the most prominent tools you’ll ever need in your life.

When I am reading this magazine, memories of the English 'To Be Continued' diverse learning theme are recalled inside my mind. The ‘English Time’ videos, the TBC stories, the Reading Championship…those are special memories that I will bear in mind.

It’s really a great thing that there is a magazine that includes all the interesting and unique bits about the ‘To Be Continued’ learning theme in 21/22! I especially like the 8 stories of the TBC series, it is so intriguing and it makes me curious to read one chapter after another chapter every time.

I really enjoyed last year’s learning experience. Watching the magazine arouses my interest to experience all that over and over again. May more surprises lie ahead in 2023’s “Project WaOW”!

I would like to thank Dr.Lee for inviting me as BoBo the merboy this year. I was actually quite surprised and delighted when I was invited to be one of the “TBC” characters! I am really proud and fond of myself as I was part of it.

I also want to congratulate Dr.Lee and YW because this is such a memorable experience, as we are shown on this magazine.

I hope that last years topic “TBC” is really to be continued!

I have finished reading the article and it was , if a random reader of this article was not a member or a live viewer of the TBC story and experience, my confident opinion would undoubtedly be that he or she would be greatly inspired by Dr Lee’s motive and the special atmosphere of learning he has created.

It is unique to say the least, and other people or teachers might not be able to create this atmosphere. The TBC series is a brilliant way to bring English naturally in the lives of students that are struggling. With simple Q&A, verbal tasks and presentations, I think the students would be able to enjoy the film, the story, the experience and do these tasks with focus , no longer looking at them with a “another piece of homework” perspective, but a “story time!” perspective.

I greatly thank Dr Lee ; I strongly believe he will bring a spark of joy and warmth to those readers who are struggling in hard times, or are simply looking for some rare motivation. In my view and opinion, this is a captivating and compelling article, and I think many readers will think so too.

Thanks for your kind words Aldon. I do hope our experience can inspire other educators in other countries to do similar things to enrich students' experiences! I am glad the TBC theme touched you last school year!
