[24 May] Congratulations again to our solo WINNERS of the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. Please enjoy below some of the selected videos performed by our solo First Place winners:
[12 May] Hello to you all! Hinson returns for the fourth episode of "English Time — presented by Forgottenland"! And this time, he brings a friend!
In this episode, Hinson, one of our three heroes in the "To Be Continued..." series, talks about four-line poetry, which he has demonstrated with a friend in Chapter 5 of the story. Do you recall that they follow the Seven Step Verse style to compose a meaningful little poem inspired by items they are holding? Here they talk about this topic with interesting examples from different boys! Now, after watching this episode, can you make a similar poem? Instructions are straightforward: 4 lines, rhyming, based on an item, and has a message to send. Relax...you don't have to complete it in seven steps! Try it yourself and share with us your poem here! We teachers are looking forward to reading your work! Have fun with English poetry! Dr Lee [10 May] "To Be Continued..." returns after the special holiday and here is the sixth episode where the heroes find themselves in another dimension! They goes into a room with many doors! Interestingly, they have access to different places across the timeline. What do they see and experience in this new chapter? And how are they going to find the last sacred item? This chapter ends with a happy surprise! Watch it again here for all the intriguing twists and the thought-provoking experience! Now boys, question time. Here are two thoughtful questions for you. Feel free to answer one or both of them:
1. The room of many doors seem to give you access to anywhere in the timeline. If you were in such a room, where would you want to visit when you opened a door? Please explain your answer. 2. What do you think make Chi-yin able to walk again? If you have such an experience, please also share with us an instance when you were suddenly able to do a thing you thought you couldn't do previously. In this Speech Festival, we also have 30 second places and 24 third places! Clearly, our boys have had so much fun and competence in practising and performing through the Video Submission Mode of the Festival. And we are glad to say that this is our best result among the recent four Speech Festivals! Thank you for all of you boys joining the event and trying hard for it. And I thank our teachers for heavily involving in the training process for many students. “Speech and Drama” has been an important subject of the English learning experience in YWPS. Keep up your great work and you know what? Our Speech Gala is around the corner...We will certainly see more inspiring speech acts very soon! Meanwhile, may I invite all our Speech Festival awardees, present or past, to share with us some tips on how to do well in the Festival? Thanks to you all again! Dr H C Lee [13 Apr] Big CONGRATULATIONS to our Drama Team who performed brilliantly for the Drama Festival 2021/22. The Festival was held in the form of an online Reader's Theatre. Our Drama Team had been trained for months for the play "The Frog Prince Continued" and had their live online performance for adjudication on 11 March. And we received the results from the Hong Kong School Drama Festival yesterday. We are thrilled to be awarded as follows:
Award for Outstanding Script -- Mrs Abanty Paul Award for Outstanding Director -- Mrs Abanty Paul, Ms Peggy Yau, Ms Jackie Cheng, Ms Kei Yip Award for Outstanding Performer — Yuen Hei Wang Roderick (5A); Lo Kai Tik Anson (6A); Lincoln Du Powell (4E); Choy Tung Lam (6C); Yeung Ching Long Caspian (4B) Award for Outstanding Audio-visual Effects -- Ying Wa Primary School Award for Outstanding Cooperation -- Ying Wa Primary School Adjudicators' Award -- Ying Wa Primary School This is our second time winning as many as six awards in the Drama Festival and it is also our second time getting the highest prize, "Adjudicators' Award"! (Refer to our previous Drama Festival achievements here.) In the pre-pandemic days, we would have been invited to perform our play for public as an Adjudicators' Award winner. Now, understandably, this arrangement cannot be made, but we are delighted and excited all the same for our achievements! Thank you to our drama teachers and drama boys for their hard work to achieve this beautiful feat. We look forward to showing all of you our recorded drama later in our Drama Fiesta 2022! Stay tuned! Dr Lee
[1 Apr] The third episode of "English Time — presented by Forgottenland" is launched! In this episode, another hero in the "To Be Continued" series, Chi-yin, is the presenter. He is bringing us some interesting words to broaden your knowledge and ignite your curiosity to the English language. The robot is helping out too in this episode! How cute and powerful it is!
Now, after watching this video, do you have another fun English word that you have come across from your reading experience? And what makes that word intriguing to you? Please put down your thoughts in the comment box and share with us! Have fun with English! Dr Lee [28 Feb] Chapter 5 has arrived! Did you get any inspiration from Na Na's "secret code" you received earlier? Here in this fifth chapter, Bong explores the weird underground place further and discovered the "office" of the Old Wise Man, who finds Bong knowing a little too much...In a different zone, Chi-yin, Hinson and the merboy went to a museum in London. There, they experience a very special contest where they get more than one sacred item! The end of their quest is getting closer and closer! Watch the episode again here: Now boys, question time. Here are two thoughtful questions for you. Feel free to answer one or both of them:
1. Have you got any idea what happened to Bong in the period after meeting the Old Wise Man and before Bong reunited with the team? Explain your thought. 2. Hinson and the merboy improvised their poem and it was a success. In your life, have you ever "improvised" anything (creating something immediately without planning) which brought you some success? Share your story here!
[20 Jan] The second episode of "English Time — presented by Forgottenland" is launched! The sporty and "muscular???" Bong is the host this time. He talks about "The ABC of Sports", which is to use the first three letters of the alphabet to introduce three interesting things related to sports. He also teaches you some grammatical aspects of using the three words. Check out the video above and enjoy it!
In addition to Bong's sharing, as you can see that three others boys also talk about their "ABC of Sports"! Click below for the full versions of their presentations.
Now, a challenge for you -- What's your "ABC of ________?" Try to come up with your own ideas (can be in sports or other areas) and explain a bit for each of the three words like how the above presenters did. Enter your passage in the comment box below. Have fun thinking, writing and sharing!
Dr Lee [11 Jan] In Chapter 4, two of our young heroes, Hinson and Chi-yin had a seperate journey from Bong. These two boys stayed in the Underwater Palace as guests but to their surprise, the mermen had another plan! They were trapped in a cell and could only use their wisdom to win back their freedom from a tricky and maths-minded creature - The Octopus, which was guarding them. Could they free themselves and how did they manage to do it? And the dice last time predicted that there should be a new member to their team. So, who might that be? Watch the animated clip again here: Now boys, question time. Here are two thoughtful questions for you. Feel free to answer one or both of them:
1. How would you describe the character of the Octopus? Why do you think it was assigned this job to guard the prisoners? 2. Did the merboy harm the heroes at first and then help them? What was going on in the mind of the merboy? [4 Jan] Our "To Be Continued..." tale has come to Chapter 3 where Bong, at an underground construction, met a mysterious girl, Na Na, who stole a pipa. Bong was startled to see warriors dressing like those in the Qin Dynasty and to learn that he was in fact at a colossal tomb of an emperor. He ended up receiving the third sacred item but was still away from his teammates, Hinson and Chi-yin. Would Bong return to the group soon? And what secrets did this underground place hold? Now boys, question time. Here are two thoughtful questions for you. Feel free to answer one or both of them:
1. Bong helped Na Na without thinking much. Why do you think he did it this way? And please share with us an experience of yours where you helped a person (particularly in an emergency situation) without consideration. 2. This chapter doesn't tell you about the background of Na Na, can you please guess her background? Give as much detail as possible! |
